Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Oldthinker Doubleplusgood 1984 Readwise or, Winston and I would like our bullets now, please. October 27, 2010 at 10:43 PM. You present many interesting approaches to teaching this novel. I particular like how you state that students could really have fun with Newspeak and doublethink. Maybe if I focus on the manipulation of language, then students can have fun with it and also get meaning from one particular motif in the novel. Am I allowed to do something like this? One las...

TAL Reflections: Digital Mentor
http://tstaylor25.blogspot.com/2010/10/digital-mentor.html
Friday, October 22, 2010. Bauerlein is ignorant and lazy. How dare he pin the blame on his students! Where is HIS responsibility to move with the times and teach his students. The technology that will never ever go away no matter how much he whines about it? Should break the barriers of technology. We. Should be the first to know. We. Winston learns a valuable lesson about thoughts. They won't go away. No matter how much propaganda one listens to about newspeak and the thought police, a person's ...I tot...

Wednesday, October 13, 2010. When I was assigned Anne Frank Diary of a Young Girl. Years ago in one of my English classes, I did not read it. I liked almost every book I was assigned in high school, so I read all of the books I was assigned. except this one. I do not think it was the diary form I disliked, because I am currently reading Dracula. Is a much more powerful book. I feel like Anne Frank. Almost everyone loved it, right? I also know some other people who feel the same way about Anne Frank.

A. Roman's Blog: Racism, Sexism or Both?
http://aromansblog.blogspot.com/2010/11/racism-sexism-or-both.html
Wednesday, November 17, 2010. Racism, Sexism or Both? After reading the 3 selections for this weeks class, I had one recurring question running through my mind.yes, of course race is important, but isn't our gender part of the lens through which we view race? Now, regardless of the man's race, how many of you would be comfortable in that situation? I know I wouldn't! In both of these texts gender is as important as race, so I wonder why it is that we, as readers, always focus on race and ignore gender?

adlit-dobler: Shakespeare anyone?
http://adlit-dobler.blogspot.com/2010/11/shakespeare-anyone.html
Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Manga is still very new to me and I have had to fight my prejudices to appreciate it. Reading the Manga Shakespeare is very different in some ways than the Bard's original form. It is obviously more accessible. It requires MUCH. Less effort on the part of the reader. For a reader who is experienced in finding the meaning in comic forms, it undoubtedly provides a richer experience than I get. But the acid test is: Does the form allow the reader to make meaning? I also agree th...

A. Roman's Blog: Why It's a Sin to Kill a Mockingbird...
http://aromansblog.blogspot.com/2010/09/why-its-sin-to-kill-mockingbird.html
Sunday, September 26, 2010. Why It's a Sin to Kill a Mockingbird. To Kill a Mockingbird. Is one of my favorite novels of all time. There are so many themes at work in this novel that seems on the surface to deal merely with 'a slice of life' in the South. The characters in the novel, like the theme, seem to be simple on the surface, but are so much more complex, when you read between the lines. Was she just trying to cover her shame? This is my new favorite video involving Boo Radley. I Watch Them Leave.

Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Make Love, Not War! Vietnam, the 60s.I was a young, idealistic girl from a small town in Northern California. The most interesting thing to happen in my life was when I was asked to prom by Paul Connelly, the captain of the football team. I thought my life was perfect. Hours later they came home. Jack went upstairs silently. My mother rushed to my father, and he simply said, "Our boy's enlisted.". Jack didn't speak much after that.he just drank and smoked and died silently.
