Stories and Adventures...

Tuesday, December 5, 2017. Ayutthaya and the River Cruise and my final day in Bangkok. My final full day in Thailand, I took a tour to the Royal Summer Palace and the Ayutthaya temples, along with a river cruise. I began the morning by waiting around for the bus that was an hour late before the tour started. The first stop of the day was the Royal Summer Palace, which was built originally in the 16th century, but had to be rebuilt in the 1800's due to disrepair. Above is the Royal Residence. Wat Matahat ...

Stories and Adventures...: May 2015

http://laurenhillard.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 22, 2015. A few extra pictures and videos from Malaysia. These are primarily from my phone and instagram pictures. But here you go. My favorite thing in the world: Milk Tea! This was next to the train station by our hotel. A magazine rack at the store. Durian. The worst. Lohyen. My new name. The ladies only coach mentioned in a previous blog! Pigeonssss. Pigeons everywhere! And example of the very crowded subways. At least they were well air conditioned for the most part.

Stories and Adventures...: June 2014

http://laurenhillard.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 30, 2014. The Pet Market, or the market of unusual pets. A few weeks ago, Warren and I went to the Pet Market near Dongdaemun, which is a big shopping area for bulk items (aka cheap) in Seoul. Warren was interested in possibly buying some fish and had heard about the market. It was quite interesting but also mildly horrifying. As an example, was the pheasant for sale as a pet or as a food? Also, the conditions of the animals wasn't exactly pristine. They had brightly colored fish. Even more ...

Stories and Adventures...: April 2014

http://laurenhillard.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Hohensalzburg Castle and Salzburg by Night. After walking around, we hiked up the small mountain to Salzburg Castle. Seeing as it was 85 degrees, Adrienne was unhappy hiking. "I hate exercise" was shouted a few times, as long as "I'm not going to make it! But, the view is fabulous! And it's a 10 minute walk and not worth paying for the cable car thing to take us up. Due to the heat, I will admit that the hike seemed steeper than I remembered. I mean, she is just terrifying.

Stories and Adventures...: Seodaemun Prison Museum

http://laurenhillard.blogspot.com/2011/09/seodaemun-prison-museum.html

Saturday, September 24, 2011. Two Sundays ago, I headed to the Seodaemun Prison museum, which I was going to include in a post about several things that I did, but it seemed weird to include it in a post with funny things that happened, so I'm giving it it's own post. I wandered over there by myself to explore before meeting up with Carrie. It was fascinating, enlightening and horrifying. Prisoner shoes and a laundry bat. Some of them were very young too. It talked about how prisoners were usually not gi...

Stories and Adventures...: Sephardic Jewish History in Cordoba

http://laurenhillard.blogspot.com/2013/11/sephardic-jewish-history-in-cordoba.html

Monday, November 4, 2013. Sephardic Jewish History in Cordoba. After the Mezquita, but before the torture museum, we decided to wander the streets of Cordoba. We headed to the Jewish Quarter. We stumbled upon a statue of Maimonides, a Sephardic Jew from Cordoba, who was quite the scholar. He was a rabbi, physician and scholar. His writings are still very important parts of traditional Jewish law and ethics. The city was so white and yet so hot. One thing about the museum that was great was that they genu...

Story Time

Stories about the stories I am writing (and hoping to publish). Monday, June 4, 2012. Bed Sheets and Perspective. Yes, even when I was little, bad grammar hurt a part of my soul. It just killed me that "you're" wasn't used as it should've been. What was the point of these odd sheets that reminded you you were special if it couldn't even say it grammatically correct? And then, when I was around eighteen, I was complaining to my dad about the grammar when he told me, "No, that's the joke! Links to this post.
