Can you say cliché? | The Tip
https://jakattack.wordpress.com/2011/04/28/can-you-say-cliche
Can you say cliché? Everyone loves a stereotype. There is nothing more rewarding than meeting someone that perfectly fits one. Now be honest, everyone knows it’s true. It could be anything from a dumb blond to a drunken, party-crazed frat boy. Whenever someone is seen fitting the bill of some stereotype there is a certain satisfaction. This was no different than one day at a local chophouse. Basically there is a lot of similarity to the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. But who’s to judge? One day the bos...

Eavesdropping | The Tip
https://jakattack.wordpress.com/2011/03/29/eavesdropping
There is a strange stigma that society has which seems to promote the idea that servers don’t have ears. What makes people think that servers are any different from their neighbor, or people sitting next to them on the bus? You wouldn’t disclose private information if someone was standing right next to you at the super market, would you? People can reveal so much about themselves over a simple meal. This can be either entertaining or distressing for a server. Continue to refill the drinks. It’s an ...

Table for One | The Tip
https://jakattack.wordpress.com/2011/04/26/table-for-one
It’s early in the afternoon on a sleepy Sunday when an elderly gentleman walks in. “How many in your party, sir? 8220;One.” He replies. The hostess leads him to a booth in the back by a window, and he looks around self-consciously as he sits down. It’s been a slow morning and the events of the night before have left me tired and non-conversational, but I watch him sit down and something inside me softens. As I approach the table to greet him I see the pangs of loneliness wearing on his face. Take the tim...

Kids Eat Free! | The Tip
https://jakattack.wordpress.com/2011/04/12/kids-eat-free
Oh the joyous sounds of little ones frolicking around. Food is smashed in the carpet and everything is sticky. It must be kids eat free day. Many restaurants these days have a designated day or time of day when children are free of charge. This gives parents a break for once. It allows those to go out who might not be able to afford to go out. Those were the good times. It is funny how adults can envy children; envy their child-like wonder where everything seems to be new and exciting. Https:/ jakattack&...

Making a Run For It | The Tip
https://jakattack.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/making-a-run-for-it
Making a Run For It. One minute they’re there then poof, they are gone. Are they both in the restroom? The server asked the hostess. Nope, they just left. And it happens again, another person escapes belly, and pockets full. Like the last post stated kids sometimes eat free, adults never. Because of this restaurants occasionally have an issue with people walking out on their bill. Why do people do this? Do they understand the ramifications? On April 19, 2011 at 1:06 pm Comments (2). Shhhh…. It happens | The Tip
https://jakattack.wordpress.com/2011/04/07/shhhh-it-happens
Shhhh…. It happens. What is the first thing you notice when you walk into a restaurant? Is it the atmosphere? Is it the price of the food? Perhaps you notice the friendliness of the staff? What should it be? If you care about cleanliness at all, you might want to take a look at the bathrooms. Some might suggest that the care of the bathroom reflects the care in the kitchen. Meaning if a bathroom is filthy, then the kitchen is as well. I know it’s a crappy topic, but it needs to be addressed. Enter your c...

https://jakattack.wordpress.com/2011/05/03/what’s-behind-the-smile
What’s behind the smile? Everyone has had a terrible server at least once in his or her life. They either had a bad attitude or maybe kept making mistakes and forgetting things. Lingo | The Tip
https://jakattack.wordpress.com/2011/04/05/lingo
Language, it is so unique, so lively, and can tell you where you are at and what kind of people you are surrounded by. If somebody blindfolded and placed you in a random room, in a random situation, you can simply listen to the language being spoken around you and probably have a good idea of where you are at. This is expected, obvious, and no different in a restaurant. Coming in as a first-time server, one might find themselves surprised, confused, and unsure of what is being said around the kitchen.
