Monmouthshire Moth and Butterfly Group. Saturday, 29 August 2015. Oblique Carpet in Blackwood. A nice surprise in this morning's trap in Blackwood ST171966 was this, my first Oblique Carpet, which Martin reliably informs me is the 21st record for VC35, along with at least 4 Small Phoenix (a record number in one trap for me). It makes a nice change from the hords of Large Yellow Underwings (I had a record 251 of those in the trap last Saturday morning! Thursday, 27 August 2015. Monday, 24 August 2015.

GRACILLARIIDAE: 282 - 305. Feeding signs on alder, Milner Royd drain, Sept.16th 09. First the larva creates an upperside, elongated, silvery blotch, then it leaves the mine and rolls the leaf edge downwards to feed in. This is my only record. Larva and mine in oak, Bankhouse wood, May 11th 09. A widespread and abundant species almost anywhere there are oaks. North Dean wood, Apr.24th 08. A field observation on a Sycamore bud. A mating pair on oak, North Dean wood, Apr.6th 09. The heavily spotted, less common form of fastuosella. Is on the left. Bankhouse wood, Apr.15th 2014. A field observation on oak. Larva, May 16th 2010. Detail of the diagnostic, dark head capsule projections. A much later miner than the more commonly recorded Eriocrania.

NEPTICULIDAE: 20 - 50. Bedroom window, June 7th 2011. Captured by day and a much sought after species. As the larvae mine the seeds of Sycamore I didn't hold out much hope of finding any of the mines so to find this adult with the minimum of effort was most unexpected. This is the only record.
