Miners tend to be restricted to a certain range of host plants and so the identification of a miner is facilitated by correctly identifying these plants. The shape of the mines (gallery or blotch) and the patterns of the droppings (frass), besides characteristics of the larvae and pupae, can be diagnostic. Hymenoptera mines are blotches and have characteristically more copious and darker frass, when compared to dipterous mines. Hymenoptera larvae have visible legs.

SLUICE BOXES FOR RECOVERING GOLD. A FAST, EFFECTIVE SLUICE BOX FOR PRODUCTION

How a Sluice Box Works. Sluice boxes of the 1800's conjure up images of long wooden sluice (long toms) that went for 15 feet or more. Pioneer miners that would wash entire hillsides through these water chutes extracting hundreds of ounces of gold per season (and that was with 1800's know how). Not bad for a well worked area after only a half a day. The moment our gold particle size increases from ultra fine the gold becomes much easier to capture. Its weight and density causes it to drop out of the g...
