Getting Started

http://www.leafproject.org/Getting%20Started/getting_started.htm

This will allow you to play around with Leaf's personality, have verbal interactions with him/her (you can rename your Leaf bot to anything you like). You can make changes to Leaf's speech repertoire and change the way it reacts to various situations. It will be helpful to learn a little Lisp to do this, but it is relatively easy to find where Bruce has implemented various functions and then use these examples as templates. RoboRealm is much easier to get started with. Even selection of a laptop has issu...

2

Software

http://www.leafproject.org/software/software.htm

The software consists of three main applications (so far). This makes it easy for each of the three original designers to work on their own area of interest. The AI implementation of the Leaf personality, written by Bruce, is the focus of control over the robot. This program is written in Lisp. We are using RoboRealm (roborealm.com) and openCV for vision. All software, except that in the microcontroller will run in a laptop computer under Windows XP, Vista or 7. For more about the software packages,.

3

Proprietary

http://www.leafproject.org/proprietary.htm

This website documents the design of a fairly complex robot which relies on hardware and software from many sources. It is our goal that software and hardware will be non-proprietary and open-source to the greatest possible extent. Where necessary, we will use existing hardware and software designs which may be proprietary to the supplier. Software falls into several categories:. Windows XP (or other variations). Compilers (C, C , Lisp, etc). Proprietary, but free:. FTDI USB adapter drivers. Your partici...

4

Family Tree

http://www.leafproject.org/FamilyTree/family_tree.htm

Following are pages describing members of the Leaf family. Each has a description of its unique features and rationale as well as photos showing details of constructions. (or will someday, anyway). To add your robot, send some text and photos to Alex Brown at rbirac@cox.net. Supply it as a web page and links if you can, or just send a Word document with the photos inserted, or anything else. Rocky 2 (Alex Brown).

5

Objectives

http://www.leafproject.org/objectives.htm

Design and build a robot which will be computationally powerful, easy to work on,. Large enough to operate in a real world house or office environment and interact with the same household features that humans do, and be (of course) relatively inexpensive. The robot should be constructed using, as far as practical, commonly available hardware and software; preferably free or inexpensive. Standard PC equipment and software will be used for the intelligence.

Remote Control Platform: October 2006

http://r625.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 28, 2006. Got some chips from Sparkfun.com. The first is a UNL 2803 Darlington Transistor Array. Which I hope to use to control a stepper motor with, I have 8 of those, they are cheap and if they work I can use them on the boe-bot or other projects. Also got 3 SN754410ne. Chips, they are H-Bridge Motor Drivers. Don't know if it will work but also got 3 C-PS2501-4 optoisolators. This is a picture of the ICs from a beat fuji finepix cam I just got. Sunday, April 29, 2007. Microwave Transformers and PICS. Made progress on making the Welder, and making useful things with PIC microprocessors. Took a old microwave transformer and chiselled out (none to neatly) the secondary windings and put in 3.5 turns of heavy wire, 4 gauge I think (? That I had lying around. Pic Basic Pro seems to work as advertised and now I can actually program (clumsily) a PIC! Posted by Lee at 7:52 PM. I origionally got the omron solid state relay to make a spot welder, but now ...

Friday, November 10, 2006. Driving a Stepper Motor. Set up to drive a stepper motor. I took out of a HP printer. I used a Parallax Boe-Bot Basic Stamp and a Darlington Driver 8-Channel ULN2803 DIP. The LEDs are to visually confirm that the input sequence is correct. Rather than activate one coil at a time, It is energizing 2 at a time per the nmb data sheet. Posted by Lee at 7:20 PM. Sunday, November 05, 2006. Fairly easy to implement, easy to program. 16 LED's don't quite fit though.

Sunday, February 26, 2006. Taking things down - removing the extras. The Anderson SB 50 connectors work but the new ones are a little hard to connect/disconnect. I think that they are only designed for cold battery connect/disconnect. Their rating is 12v 17 ah/20hr. That is less than half the OEM battery, which is rated at 12v 40ah. I don't plan on doing a lot of hard running anyway. Posted by Lee at 7:55 AM. Sunday, February 19, 2006. Posted by Lee at 4:54 AM. Posted by Lee at 4:53 AM.

Sunday, June 10, 2007. I have wanted a Elec-Trac GE for a while, I think I missed the boat, the ones available are usually pretty expensive if in good condition(if you can find one somebody will part with) and the junky ones are usually expensive and are not really worth anything except for some spare parts. Sunday, April 23, 2006. Working on the Vex. Made the Vex this Saturday, and it is pretty spiffy, The gears give 4 wheel drive. The wheels are fixed but it turns okay skid steel style, in fact it spins in place, pretty neat stuff. Nathan really wanted to put the tank treads on and so did I. We had to shorted the treads by almost half. They are short and a bit noisy but work great. Pretty solid for $15. Posted by Lee at 12:17 PM. RC Plane Drop Mechanism (Bomb Drop).
