Five Random Things | Learned Happiness
https://learnedhappiness.wordpress.com/2014/10/29/five-random-things
A study in happiness, in spite of of mental illness. This is the oldest photo I could find. 2009 isn’t 2005, but it’s close enough, right? Tiny Doodlebug with short curls! It’s 2005 and we’re blogging like in the good ol’ days! To be honest, I didn’t start blogging until those good ol’ days were already just a memory, but I’ve really enjoyed reading other writers’ random things (Including Kim from Red Shutters. Who tagged me), so I’ll join in with mine. Fine World War I soldiers? And the NY Pops (though ...
Patient Like a Rainbow | Learned Happiness
https://learnedhappiness.wordpress.com/2014/12/10/patient-like-a-rainbow
A study in happiness, in spite of of mental illness. Patient Like a Rainbow. I contemplated not writing this. Just letting this space and its audience slowly fade in the same way it slowly grew. But if there’s anything I love more than coffee, it’s closure. I created this as place for me almost 4 years ago – a journal of sorts, online only because an audience is sometimes the best way to create voice and focus in writing, and inspired by my friend Melissa Lee. I am immensely grateful for that most of all.
Sometimes It’s…Just What I Needed To Read | Learned Happiness
https://learnedhappiness.wordpress.com/2014/08/22/sometimes-itsjust-what-i-needed-to-read
A study in happiness, in spite of of mental illness. Sometimes It’sJust What I Needed To Read. Do you see the sidebar over there? Those nifty little tiles and the list below? They’re not advertisements. Those are the folks I read. Every chance I get (which honestly is probably in the bathroom). The ones I return to when I want to nod my head, laugh until I’m swallowing my own tears, or stretch and grow. So if you’ll indulge me, I’d like to borrow my friend’s words. I hope you’...You hear in your head the...

From One Teacher to Another | Learned Happiness
https://learnedhappiness.wordpress.com/2014/09/03/from-one-teacher-to-another
A study in happiness, in spite of of mental illness. From One Teacher to Another. When I was a second-year teacher, many years ago (before kids), I was stunned silent by a parent after a not-so-pleasant meeting about their child’s lack of work completion and general bad attitude. 8220;Are you a parent? 8221; she asked me after much discussion. And in the uncomfortable silence, I heard myself screaming in my head. 8220;Huh. She thinks I’m an idiot. Great.”. And, “No! Nobody, that’s who.”. I am trusting yo...

Neighborly Love
http://www.lifeeversince.com/neighborly-love.html
PR & Disclosure. So, How’d You Meet? Jul 2, 2014. July 2, 2014. My husband declared a moratorium on me bringing meals to friends or families from church. I was really upset about and fought him on it. After all, people had been incredibly generous with us when we needed meals: through Mr. DIH’s illness last spring. The birth of a new baby, and a two week bout with RSV and the flu. Wasn’t it our turn to serve others? I had it in my head that I needed to love our neighbor. It makes no sense for me to be ru...

I am not Trayvon Martin’s Mom | Under The Acacia Tree
https://blueberrybuzz.wordpress.com/2013/07/16/i-am-not-trayvon-martins-mom
Under The Acacia Tree. Life is big. Really big. Lean into Love →. I am not Trayvon Martin’s Mom. I distinctly remember one of the days I had to really own my racism. Yes, that’s right. I’m a white mother of 2 black boys and I’m a racist. Shocked? You shouldn’t be. As a white person with white privilege, it’s in the very air I breath. I am owning it. I can speak it, “I am a racist.” I try not to be, every single day. But, I am. How do I know I’m a racist? I went on to get deeply involved in working on bei...
now what do i say?: December 2014
http://nowwhatdoisay.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Now what do i say? Thursday, December 4, 2014. Paul and I decided to fit as much into our year living near DC as we possibly could. so that included spending the evening of the fourth of July on the national mall with 700,000 or so of our nearest and dearest. or nearly a million strangers. We got there near sunset, and found a little spot to set up our blanket. Asher wanted desperately to wander around and meet everyone, he did succeed in making friends with everyone around us. And yes, the hooligans wer...
now what do i say?: January 2014
http://nowwhatdoisay.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Now what do i say? Tuesday, January 7, 2014. So the kids and I made a deal back in Aug-Sept sometime that if they could get the playroom, living room and their bedroom all clean, as in really-truly-organized-picked up-vacuumed-etc-clean, then they could have a reward. something special and fun to play with. and along about Thanksgiving time they did it! Generally not allowed at our house, cause we have such a hard time getting them all picked back up after playing with them). Monday, January 6, 2014.

Run mad as often as you choose. Mother’s Day: I #CelebrateEveryMom with ProFlowers! May 8, 2015. Full disclosure: In exchange for beautiful bouquets of my choice, I am writing this post for ProFlowers. All thoughts and opinions belong to me and the moms I chose as recipients. #CelebrateEveryMom is their hashtag, but the celebrations are all from the heart.). For myself, I chose roses. Sweetly Voiced™: About Me
http://www.sweetlyvoiced.com/p/about-me.html
Voicing my journey as a person with diabetes, an advocate, a singer, and a mom. I am proud to call myself by many titles. Wanted kids. I remember vividly an assignment in first grade with a trifolded piece of construction paper where I illustrated my three dream jobs - Teacher, Singer, and Mother. (I'm consistent.). My biggest dream came true the day Sweetie was born. She is, to quote a children's book I love called I Love You So. In 2012, we welcomed Dibbs. But I have never been after the glory. PWD (Pe...

Learned Helpfullness
So what might learned helpFULLness be? How about “a condition of a human being or an animal in which it has learned to behave helpfully by finding opportunities in a circumstance to which it has been subjected, despite feelings of fear or doubt.” Matthew Sloan. Tuesday, October 12, 2010. 8220;Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you are, what you believe, shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish.". Ruin is the road to transformation". The girls father is an amazing person I...
learned helplessness
March 31, 2013. It would seem that many of us lefty types have been paying a lot of attention to something called MMT – Modern Monetary Theory. The central tenet of this school of thought, built on identities in sectoral balance accounting. Is that a nation sovereign in its own currency, with a non-convertible currency and floating exchange rates, is not and can not be revenue-constrained. Ok, fair enough. Now what? Perhaps an open letter to the President-cum-Czar. Two observations, if you will:. Two: wh...
