Primulas were once just flowers that I associated with late winter / early spring. Years later I grew them from seed after giving the seeds. A taste of winter'. One of the benefits (believe me .there are not too many). They can be found growing wild along rivers and streams in regions of China, India and Nepal.

Aaron's Gardening Blog: Orchidaceae
http://aaronvft.blogspot.com/2013/04/orchidaceae.html
Tuesday, April 23, 2013. The humongous family of flowering plants collectively known as orchids have been one of my favourite families of angiosperms since childhood, though I've only started collecting them since 2 years ago. With hundreds of genera and thousands of species in the widespread Orchidaceae family, orchids come in a plethora of shapes, sizes, colours, and growth habits. This beige Phalaenopsis (Moth orchids) was a gift from my mother. The venation and colour of the flowers is rather uni...

Pond Life Wild Life Good Life . and a bit of French Life. Friday, 22 May 2015. Garden to mid May and a few interesting visitors. Funnily enough, having checked to see that we had actually seen these species before in the garden, I discovered three other species I'd forgotten to put on my garden bird list, so it now stands at 62! The full list can be seen on the page Bird Count at the top of the right sidebar. Mistle Thrush ( Turdus viscivorus. Turtle Dove ( Streptopelia turtur. Their nests are a miracle ...

Pond Life Wild Life Good Life . and a bit of French Life. Sunday, 17 May 2015. Veg patch and Pollinator Meadow in May. What's better than one Painted Lady in your garden? Why, two of course! I was so happy to see the return of these migratory beauties last week. They made a beeline for the Dame's Rocket ( Hesperis matronalis. In my Pollinator Meadow, which is quite a hit with butterflies. And a post about it from last year with lots more critters including bee flies and crab spiders is here. The Pollinat...
Ginny's garden: Sweet on the Sweet Gum
http://ginnysgarden.blogspot.com/2013/03/sweet-on-sweet-gum.html
What grows in my garden. Sunday, March 3, 2013. Sweet on the Sweet Gum. Yesterday I was playing hopscotch with two of my young grandsons. Instead of a pebble to toss on the board, we used a Sweet Gum ball. If you have Sweet Gum trees in your garden, it's good to look for creative uses for those seed pods - you will have an abundant supply of them. And, along with leaves and pine needles, they linger at the end of my driveway. On close inspection, nestled in the grass, they look beautiful but dangerous.

One Flew Over the Empty Nest: April 2012
http://oneflewovertheemptynest.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
One Flew Over the Empty Nest. There are many pictures to be taken when one lives in touristy area. Our birds are particularly photogenic! Saturday, April 28, 2012. I've recently made the birdbath more accessible to my feathered friends. The original was too deep so I used it as a planter and made a shallow bath for the birds. They love it! Even though they won't stay in long enough for me to remember to go get my camera. Sheesh. I did get a few shots of some cardinals. And a grackle stopped by for a drink.

The Vultures are starting to Circle the Garden! Yesterday Morning before heading out for a bit I noticed a bunch of Vultures circling around the Garden areas. Does this mean my garden has died and the stench is bringing in the local riff-raft? Are they here to pick up the pieces of my broken down flowers? And al...
