Mad, sad and bad | Jo Meek

Mad, sad and bad. March 9, 2015. My injury is not serious but it won’t settle. I have rested (yes properly) and still it persists. Being injured is tougher than any ultra race because ultimately it is an unknown entity- one doesn’t know what one has taken on- and it certainly wasn’t voluntary. I did not pay a fee and willingly sign up to this. Secondly my arms are so tired from all the swimming I’ve been doing typing has been taxing! This dissatisfaction strays into other aspects of my life as my identif...

World Trail Championships 2016. November 4, 2016. Never mind the race getting to Portugal and back to England was ultra training in itself. 90minute delay on the way out and 2.5hrs on the way home which meant I got home at 4.30am and got up for work at 6am. Good old British Airways! However, I did not mind…the GB female team got on the podium. We got Bronze! I went through up and downs throughout never feeling utterly brilliant but also aware that was probably because I pushed the whole way. I fuelle...

May 30, 2014. My overnight flight to Johannesburg saw me eating my breakfast to this awesome sunrise. My first conversation on landing was initiated by a lady complimenting me on my ‘cute and stylish haircut’- I love this country already! I then flew to Durban where I was collected and taken to the hotel. Skyline view from the Hilton. On opening my bag…. Thank you Jon x. Saturday was spent not doing much to be honest. Although I did get to meet some great people. I walked away from the event smiling....

Translyvania Trail Traverse | Jo Meek

September 7, 2014. The memories of the 106km race with 8500m of climbing in the Bucegi Mountains in one sentence- ascending (stunning views) descending a lot, bears, shepherd dogs, night, beautiful sunrise, Dracula belt buckle, plum brandy and a mahoosive mask with horns. As Jon and I now board the flight from Bucharest to Luton I can reflect on the past 36 surreal hours. We arrived at Bucharest (luckily considering we queued for Budapest for 15mins! As so steep and sheer, past shepherd huts with their c...
