Arabesques: Ya Lubnan!
http://zineb-returns.blogspot.com/2014/07/ya-lubnan.html
I'm going to Lebanon! Beiruit to be exact. I'm not one to get very excited about things, but I've wanted to go to Beirut ever since I took two classes in the 2006-2007 school year with one of my favorite professors - who is Lebanese. Oh, and they've also pledged fealty to the new ISIS caliphate. No big deal, but no brunch is worth dealing with a group that is so violent that Al-Qaeda is telling them to calm down. Arabesques: Ramadan's Beginnings
http://zineb-returns.blogspot.com/2010/08/ramadans-beginnings.html
Happy Ramadan, woo! That’s Ramadan Kareem (generous) or رمضان كريم. The most common conversation I’ve had with American non-Muslims when I tell them I’ll be fasting for Ramadan involves one question: “Why? I have no good reasons not to fast. But that, of course, is pretty theologically lazy. It’s funny to me that when I tell (Muslim) Moroccans I’m going to fast this year, they never ask why. My friend just said, “God will help you.”. That certainly put me in my place, but I think it demonstrates two impo...

Arabesques: How was Beirut?
http://zineb-returns.blogspot.com/2014/07/how-was-beirut.html
In case you needed another) Disclaimer:. Every since I was young, I have been fascinated with stories. Mostly, I consumed stories like I eat: passionately, too quickly (sometimes uncontrollably), and with an almost reckless abandon that can lead to losing connection with the "real" world. In coming back, a lot of people have already asked me (including my friends at the nail place, bless them! Oh, how was your vacation? No one has time to listen to me recount the past 4000 years, let alone the past 30.
