It is part traction engine and part locomotive and was built in 1906 by Aveling and Porter for Gypsum Mines Ltd. at Mountfield in Sussex. Its name comes from a product similar to plaster of paris which was produced by the company: Sirapite was decided to be more suitable than Parisite. How to order your copy. The Band of The Royal British Legion Leiston is situated in Suffolk and is the only Legion band in the County. We play a wide repertoire of music and undertake a variety of engagements, playing for many local events as well as giving regular concerts. Being near to the Suffolk coast we often play at tourist spots in the area.

The Band’s Musical Director. Band Party at The Brudenell – December 12th ’08. Sirapite, Making the CD. It is a surprising fact that the Leiston Band, like many others, owes its origin to the foreign policy of Emperor Napoleon III in the 1850s. The Garrett family who owned the engineering works in the town and manufactured their world renowned steam engines using the pioneering "Long Shop" production line, were keen supporters of the unit, providing money and free use of the Works Hall for drill practice.
