A Year in Uganda. Thursday, April 23, 2009. Village life in Sovietsky. After teaching English in Kiev and then in Zaporizhzhye, I moved to the village of Sovietsky to live with Cary and work with Perspectiva, a regional development NGO. Village life in general is much more slow paced, but chores and cooking take up a lot more time than they ever did in the states. We don't have a dish washer or microwave, two things I will never take for granted again! And Will you KISS Cary? Lauren Rogers-Bell, RN.

Then I went to meet with the head of the OBS/GYN department at Mulago Hospital, who allowed me to start working on Ward 14 (the low risk maternity floor at Mulago) while my paperwork to become a registered nurse in Uganda was being processed. He encouraged me to work on Ward 5c, because that is the high risk maternity ward and he thought they might need more help. Thus my role as the supervisor of other foreigners on Ward 14 began. FIRST FULL WEEK ON WARD 14.
