The signwriting documents I discovered in Footscray in February 2012, and which compose this archive, go back to 1915. The National Library's Trove. Sometimes these signs-to-be were hand drawn on paper, sometimes on layers of tracing paper on top of photos of the existing building, and occasionally painted or drawn with crayons.
