Highs and Lows | Making Waves
https://lexisalt.wordpress.com/2014/10/29/highs-and-lows
My journey of disruptive change-making. October 29, 2014. Last weekend, I had an amazing opportunity to go to Saly to my host family’s other house. I went with Ish, Kyla, Nobi, Bennett and Eden. It is a beautiful house, made up of 2 buildings with a pool in the middle. It is also a two minute walk away from the ocean. Therefore, I pretty much spent the whole weekend in the water! Senegalese string instrument called the “riti”, similar to a violin. 14 thoughts on “ Highs and Lows. This is wonderful, Lexi!

My journey of disruptive change-making. September 29, 2014. I made friends with the guards, Sabalay and Cisse, at my hotel. They always wanted to know how my day was and gave my directions on wherever I needed to go. They also told me what a fair price would be for a taxi so I didn’t get charged a ridiculous price. I was sad to leave the hotel just because I won’t be seeing them very often. Néné, Aminata, myself, Fatimata, and Marie (from left to right). Issa, Maman and Rose on Issa’s birthday. Hi Lexi, ...

My journey of disruptive change-making. Le temps passe vite! February 19, 2015. I can’t believe that it is already mid-late February! I went to my first Senegalese wedding! I got to play soccer in Senegal for the first time! My brother Ish has a team he plays with. Girls playing soccer in Senegal is very rare and he was hesitant to let me play because he didn’t want me to get hurt. But I was able to participate and it was an amazing experience. The Senegalese are amazing soccer players! You are commentin...

My journey of disruptive change-making. Monthly Archives: March 2015. Adventures in Senegal with Friends. March 5, 2015. I took my sister and three of my cousins to visit La Statue de la Renaissance. It was pretty fun and there was a great view of the city! We toured around the first couple of levels; I might go back so I can go to the top and take some pictures of Dakar. The people who made these art pieces are incredibly talented. It was a great experience! One comment so far. Le temps passe vite!

Pride isn’t Enough | Out There
https://ifindmyway.wordpress.com/2014/07/01/pride-isnt-enough
Chronicles of a student of International Development. Pride isn’t Enough. July 1, 2014. I finished this year’s Toronto Pride festivities like a christmas tree. That is to say, dehydrated and covered in tinsel. Well, maybe not tinsel, but there was glitter. Lots and lots of glitter. Stole that joke from the show Bob’s Burgers, no humour credit for me). 8211; that said about normalcy, in some ways there is an element of an exotifying gaze that is felt at times at Pride. And sometimes I wonder how much ...

Part of the 100%. Learning simplicity and my place within the hundred percent. Unless you’re living under a rock, you will know that the World Cup starts this Thursday. I am not a sports fanatic, but I do think it is a wonderful way to bring the world together. As I stated in a past blog. Human trafficking in relation to the World Cup has become a hot topic in the media since the 2006 games in Germany. Sonja Dolinsek, a blogger and PhD student sheds some objective and encouraging light. Statistics on hum...

Part of the 100%. Learning simplicity and my place within the hundred percent. This past weekend was the Super Bowl. My apathy towards football may present a bias, but the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the words Super Bowl. Is how can you justify spending $133 000 per second. Of advertising when this. Is happening just a plane ticket away? I understand it is a cultural event and cannot counter that, but:. Some of the ads are so distasteful I am not sure if I actually just watched that.

Part of the 100%. Learning simplicity and my place within the hundred percent. The Day I Chose Not to Eat. I don’t have a vivid memory but a day I will never forget is during my summer break in between grade 7 and 8. I was 12 years old and I remember my family was out for the day; I had the house to myself. Growing up with four other siblings, this did not happen often enough and I cherished every solo hour I had. Eating at all today? So I didn’t eat that day. At all. And I felt. Seems seriously backward...
Weight | Out There
https://ifindmyway.wordpress.com/2014/07/04/weight
Chronicles of a student of International Development. July 4, 2014. Our words and actions have it. And it’s easy to forget that when things line up the way we want them to. We realize most viscerally the differences between the weights of our words when we lack that weight, when our voices fall on deaf ears, and when others are heard over us. This is what I want all you folks to have in mind when considering my post about Pride not being enough. By Lindsay Jack, a K-W slam poet. Her piece describes someo...

Part of the 100%. Learning simplicity and my place within the hundred percent. A good friend of mine is currently living in Uganda. She recently went to Gulu, a city that Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) used to occupy for their inhumane (to put it mildly) endeavors. In her blog. She shares some of her witness to the healing that has taken place by past victims of the LRA, including one of Kony’s wives and children. Over the video since then:. This video was a money grab. Lexi's Malawi Trip
Sunday, June 21, 2009. Wishing I could go back! Two students from our group last year are going back this summer on their own for 3 weeks! Amy (RU) and Brian (NC A&T) bought plane tickets and they are planning on meeting up with Peter while in Malawi. I am so jealous! Brian is coming to VT in the fall for a doctorate program! He came to Blacksburg in the spring and we were able to grab coffee and catch up. I can't wait to hear the stories about their trip! Http:/ toddmalawi.blogspot.com/. Way to go VT!

My journey of disruptive change-making. April 23, 2015. I am leaving tomorrow. I am actually leaving my home for 8 months tomorrow. I can’t believe it! I don’t think it has actually sunk in yet. That being said, I am very much looking forward to seeing my family and friends back in Canada. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate everyone’s support from back home! Both of...

There are revolutions over power, money, and equal rights. People may be tired of the way they have been treated or the way things are being ran and may want to do something about it. I think the quote means that a revolution starts with feelings or thoughts about the certain problem that haven't been expressed. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Sunday, September 20, 2009. Bill Gates: Gaming Genius or Expert Marketer? Bill Gates created two consoles from one gaming console. You could sell one cheaper than the other right? Make people think their getting a deal from the same console.one has more technology than the other. One console too expensive? But its the same darn console!
