Wednesday, 11 February 2009. I completely forgot to add these to the blog, they should slot in between my sisters portraits and my the ones taken of my flatmates, but I will put them in now anyway! I few weekends ago I went back home as it was my Grandma's 97th. Birthday, so of course I wanted to pay her a visit and spend some time with her. There was nothing huge planned which is a shame, as this would have been a perfect oppourtunity to capture all my family together at one given time! I think this sho...

Liam Cox: January 2009

http://www.liamjcox.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 28 January 2009. Whilst at home I also decided to take some photos of my Sister, Amy. Another person who I am very close to and is a great importance to me and 'my world'. I took some shots of her in the woods our house looks over which is another memorable place for me as when we were both younger we would play and run riot in these very same woods, so it was nice to go back there together,. Quite pleased with the outcome of this shoot! Sunday, 25 January 2009. Finally got some work to put up!

Liam Cox: Dylan Portraits!

http://www.liamjcox.blogspot.com/2009/01/dylan-portraits.html

Sunday, 25 January 2009. Finally got some work to put up! Iv been damn ill all week so havn't gotten round to doing any photos unless I took some self portraits of myself in bed looking rough! Although I don't think Hugh would have liked that? Anywayyyy, I have come home this weekend and went to see my 6 month old godson Dylan! 27 January 2009 at 06:52. Liam, such gorgeous pictures of your godson. 27 January 2009 at 08:16. Liam - self-portraits can be very productive - hows about trying it!

Liam Cox: Rineke Dijkstra

http://www.liamjcox.blogspot.com/2009/02/rineke-dijkstra.html

Wednesday, 4 February 2009. I looked at some of Dijkstra's work as she kept coming up in seminars and recently in a lecture and her work is great! Her portraits are so simply captured but yet are so effective. I have decided to take inspiration from her when taking some photos of my flatmates, whom are a big part of my world at the moment as I see them everyday and I guess we are a little family! 5 February 2009 at 03:19. http://gregorynewton.blogspot.com/2009/01/todays-photos.html

Wednesday, 28 January 2009. Today ive been out around the city again with Hughs advise on getting closer and Friedlanders work in mind. I think these are a step forward from Mondays images, let me know what you think. Registry Office, Shakespeare Street. Bus Stop, Mansfield Road. Family and Youth Courts. 29 January 2009 at 11:56. Greg these are a really interesting set of photographs, i really like the bus stop photograph and the family and youth courts. It is well composed and thought out.

Gregs Photos: January 2009

http://gregorynewton.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, 31 January 2009. More Work - Reflections. Ive been working at improving my composition, and bringing more meaning into my photos. Looking over Friedlanders work some more, one thing he uses a lot are reflections, often including himself. Ive given this a go myself to see what it says to the viewer about me, to see if it can carry some of my own feelings and opinions about the world. Let me know what you think. Gregs Photos: Single Image

http://gregorynewton.blogspot.com/2009/02/good-point-julia-this-photo-does-stand.html

Monday, 2 February 2009. Good point Julia, this photo does stand well on its own, you have the dish representing my world, with me in the centre then you have a patch of green on one side and the gray buildings on the other, representing the countryside where I normally live and the city where I live now, all tied up in one image. Just to see how the meaning could change I went back to this spot today in the snow. The meaning is lost because you cant see the green grass symbolising the countryside.

Gregs Photos: February 2009

http://gregorynewton.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, 7 February 2009. Out again today photographing the city, trying to pull together all the ideas, advise and inspiration up to now:. Thursday, 5 February 2009. Snows really quite distracting, I don't mean the inner child snowman desire, it seems to distract me from the project ideas I already have. This is probably because the world looks so different under snow, though essentially its the same, its only a bit of cold water. Having said that a couple that I made did turn out alright, here you go:.

Gregs Photos: A Brief

http://gregorynewton.blogspot.com/2009/02/brief.html

Thursday, 5 February 2009. I response to a question to Hugh this morning, he mentioned the brief, or my brief. This reminded me that the brief he gave us was quite vague and writing my own brief might be helpful. I want to portray Nottingham as a pleasant place, it has a reputation for crime but I've never personally witnessed this, I'm sure its no worse than any other UK city, and this reputation is just down to statistic wrangling by the media. I hope to show this is true with my photographs.

Gregs Photos: Lee Friedlander

http://gregorynewton.blogspot.com/2009/01/lee-friedlander.html

Wednesday, 28 January 2009. On Hughs advise I've been having a close look at Lee Friedlander, an American photographer who's work stems from the 60's to now, so a very similar time period to the Riboud stuff. I'm mostly interested in his street work from the 60's and 70's as this reflects closely the style I'm working in. 169; Lee Friedlander. 169; Lee Friedlander. Lafayette, Louisiana 1968. In the second image Friedlander seems to be playing with the subjects, the telegraph pole which acts to divide the...
