Life in Merlin

" 'Jes 'cause you from Merlin don't mean you can pay no-never-mind to them signs." A Washington, DC cab driver pointed this out to me after my car had been towed on Wisconsin Avenue. The way he said it made it sound like poetry. You can read more about the incident in the post of November 17, 2007. This blog will be about my life in Maryland, where we have lived for over 40 years.

Life in Merlin: October 2014

http://lifeinmerlin.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 16, 2014. Reported that the wasabi we've all been eating is actually just "plain old horseradish" dyed green. The green dye is a combination of yellow dye # 5 and blue dye # 1. Fire belched from his ears. Tears filled his eyes. Professor K. said, "Oh, no, you didn't- - ". Beer, tea, water were no help at all. He was wasabi-wise after that. Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Next to the quail eggs was a carton of "Preserved Duck Egg." The package pictured an unappetizing-looking purplish-b...

Life in Merlin: An Intervention

http://lifeinmerlin.blogspot.com/2015/07/an-intervention.html

Friday, July 10, 2015. We had to call this a "beauty intervention" because the word "bath" would have set off the alarm. As it was, Dilly acted as if we were trying to drown her. We invited her into a tub of warm water. The water was no higher than her ankles, but she thrashed and jumped and fled for refuge under the Joe Pye weed. What an ordeal for man and beast. Why must dogs roll in unspeakable, smelly muck? July 10, 2015 at 10:16 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Maryland, United States. Waterm...

Life in Merlin: December 2014

http://lifeinmerlin.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Thank you, Ms. Ferguson. Here's a photo of Andrew with his clarinet. Resistant to the idea at first, he began lessons in September and took to it immediately. We are all amazed at his willingness to practice and the progress he's made. At the beginning of last Sunday's church service, he accompanied the organist in playing. Tomorrow night, Andrew will play his clarinet at Beltsville Academy's winter band concert. I wish Ms. Ferguson could be there. I can only say...Our grand...

Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Laurel's Main Street Festival 21 Years Ago. Laurel has held its Main Street Festival on the second Saturday of May for more than 30 years. At 7 AM, the street is closed to traffic. Vendors start setting up their booths. At 9 AM, the parade starts. Our church is at Sixth and Main Street. Every year we have games for kids, a crafts booth and a book sale. This year I worked at the book sale. Labels: Main Street America. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Maryland, United States.

Good News in the Wilderness. Sermons and Reflections on the Episcopal Church. Welcomed Back into Holy Space, a Holy Place. May 9, 2016 by preacher1. Yesterday morning for the first time in a very long time I put on a blue Oxford shirt rather than a black clergy shirt. Pat and I then drove over to a place that holds memories for both of us: the church on Kent Island where I spent the first four years of my ordained ministry. If so, how? What about their welcome makes me want to be a part of THIS world?

Lent II: Mark 8:31-38. If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. Are we Christians crazy? Good News in the Wilderness. Sermons and Reflections on the Episcopal Church. Archive for May, 2015. The Branches Growing on the Vine–the Real Vine. On May 3, 2015 1 Comment. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. Why does Jesus use this metaphor about a vine? Jesus wants us to understand what it means to be a Christ-follower. Jesus says that God is the vine-grower. The gardener. Jesus is the true the authentic, the. Him, remain part of him, abide. Him We branch...

Good News in the Wilderness. Sermons and Reflections on the Episcopal Church. Archive for October, 2014. How to Rejoice In a World Without Joy. On October 12, 2014 Leave a Comment. Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I say, Rejoice! Because Paul calls them by name (he rarely names people with whom he disagrees) and speaks warmly of their work for the gospel. Can they practice their Christian beliefs not because of, but in spite of challenges and worries? Just as critical a question is this one: can we, he...

But can you have 2 cats as good as Whisker? I am flabbergasted to report that Noel is the best cat I've ever seen. He's as sweet as Whiskers, but he's an indoor cat only, so I don't have to worry. I honestly love him with my whole heart. And he's totally a mommy's cat. He loves me too. Amazing! I now love cats! All You Can Eat.

Hurry up spring. So let's talk duck-billed platypus. It's time, don't you think? We can't avoid it forever. Anyway, I have always been fascinated by this mysterious creature. I just happened to catch a show on T.V. today where they were trying to catch one to get some of it's venom. Really? Other Blogs By Tory.

Saturday, March 24, 2018. Mom and Billy Graham. In the autumn of 1950, some months after Dad married my new step mom, I came into the house one evening and found her with her ear pressed to the radio.
