Life in the Gap. July 23, 2014. Another one of my sisters got married at the end of last month. Maybe it’s because my sisters are so close to me, so involved in all my most important memories, that I struggle to take their weddings seriously. Every time I have to remind myself that this is real; I stand in the vestibule ten minutes before it all begins pinching myself to make sure I’m not dreaming. Perhaps it’s more fair to ask, why have I always struggled to be real? Please pray for me as I enter format...

Life in the Gap. How eavesdropping led me to a resolution. 8220;Go, sell what you have…” →. A new profile — in discernment. June 5, 2014. I was blown away over the last two months by people’s generosity in helping me pay off my student loans so I can enter the convent at the end of the summer. So many people have been so incredibly good to me. Now I’m sharing the story of a young lady I recently met who is in a similar circumstance. She hopes to join the cloistered Dominicans. I will carefully make a rec...

Life in the Gap. A new profile — in discernment. A chapter closed →. 8220;Go, sell what you have…”. June 13, 2014. Getting compliments on your personal belongings takes on a whole new meaning when you’re about to get rid of everything you own. In recent months I’ve made more than one loose acquaintance — including my doctor — very uncomfortable when I eagerly asked, “Do you want it? 8221; after they told me they liked something I was wearing. You’ve just been offered the world. I want to shout at him.

Life in the Gap. Newer posts →. I’m in training. March 13, 2014. Is it just DC where every activity has to be carried to an absurd level of competition? I had to use this meme. But it gets worse. I don’t even know how to. Is there nowhere in life that “poorly dressed” is an acceptable standard? So…I’m calling this a win. And if you’re working towards a 40-minute 10k anytime between now and June, know that I hate you and I don’t want to talk about it. Profile in the Gap: Blanca Therese Morales. I had alwa...

Sometimes things happen to me: India calling
http://sometimesthingshappentome.blogspot.com/2012/07/india-calling.html
Sometimes things happen to me. The only consolation for introverts is to become writers, so they can at least make money off of their discomfort. Wednesday, July 25, 2012. I wish I had been better about blogging while in, or immediately upon returning from, India. Already the most of the memories have faded and only the ones that are documented with photos have been firmly implanted in my mind. The poverty that was so extreme, yet so much a part of the country. How do I categorize this trip in my life?

Taking Back Our Brave New World. An investigation of powerful words, intriguing phrases, and beautiful language. Thursday, January 9, 2014. Where Do We Go Now? I've been given leave to share some year-old correspondence with you all; although the thoughts aren't hot off the press, they are, nonetheless, not yet out-dated. Enjoy! In query to me:. So, here's a big question: do you ever speculate on the future of English poetry as such? Like, where the whole enchilada is going from here? Helen Vendler on Ye...

Taking Back Our Brave New World. An investigation of powerful words, intriguing phrases, and beautiful language. Sunday, July 1, 2012. Excerpts: Special Topics in Calamity Physics. The author, Marisha Pessl. By now I'm well over 300 pages into Special Topics in Calamity Physics. And, after all, Dante did the same thing, right? Why should I waste my time teaching puffed-up teenagers whose minds are curdled by arrogance and materialism? Determined, however, that his daughter should attend Harvard Universit...

Taking Back Our Brave New World: Why Should You Write?

Taking Back Our Brave New World. An investigation of powerful words, intriguing phrases, and beautiful language. Thursday, February 6, 2014. Why Should You Write? One day, I'll actually write something. But before that, I am going to keep asking what should we write, how should we write it, and why should we write it. Perhaps it's the cowardly approach; I can talk about it till kingdom come without actually doing anything. But maybe it's being deliberate and careful? To ponder the latest. After teaching ...

Taking Back Our Brave New World. An investigation of powerful words, intriguing phrases, and beautiful language. Tuesday, May 29, 2012. To Lucasta, Going to the Wars. Given that yesterday was Memorial Day, this seems like an appropriate time to share with all of you one of my all-time favorite poems. If you are already poetry readers, I imagine you know and love this one well, and, if not, prepare yourself for beauty, courtesy of Richard Lovelace:. Tell me not, Sweet, I am unkind,. That from the nunnery.
