Life Under the Bigtop Too

Friday, July 15, 2016. The Favorite Week of the Year. Last weekend we had a visit from Ann and Hans ( Luke) as Ann had class in Blacksburg. Friday, the boys were playing golf while school was in session so I took the teens and headed out to, naturally, play 80's video games and get lunch at Jack Browns, a perennial favorite. (Elon declined to join us.). Sunday was the big day, the best week of the year. The girls were off to their very favorite camp and E had a week as an only child! A Very Wet Week.

Life Under the Bigtop Too: And It's Monday!

http://lifeunderthebigtoptoo.blogspot.com/2015/06/and-its-monday.html

Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Don't complain about swimming being my only topic. It means I'll at least check in once a week! But truly, last week was much the same as the week before - Morrigan clocked lots of time at the YMCA, I logged some hours at work, and everyone else was scheduled around us! We did fit in a few playdates for Eion with some of his new friends from this year. As did Maggie, dropping time in both events, including 4 seconds on the butterfly. Now we're off to today's exercise session!

Life Under the Bigtop Too: Summer Days

http://lifeunderthebigtoptoo.blogspot.com/2015/07/summer-days.html

Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Other than bemoaning our lack of outdoor living, we've been trying to keep busy this summer. We knew we wouldn't be traveling, as a surgery spot might open up, but we adventured near by as much as possible. Kevin Jones Performing Arts Camp. The production at the end of the week was Spamalot - hilarious! Trefoil - described as the best week, other than Christmas, of the year. Maggie is off this week to tubing and whitewater rafting camp! Spent a morning tubing on the James river.

Life Under the Bigtop Too: August 2014

Monday, August 25, 2014. Some Free Range Fun. You have to know upfront that I am dragging myself away from Hardcore History. To blog today. It is becoming an addiction. But more on that in a wee bit. Yesterday was the kickoff meeting for Eion's Boy Scout pack. This had been something, in the past, which Tim and E attended but I had never been. You could quickly conclude that it was a good time when I yelled down to the basement, "Hey Eion! We arrive to this scene:. Now back to Hardcore History. A 6 hour ...

Life Under the Bigtop Too: November 2014

http://lifeunderthebigtoptoo.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 30, 2014. Hoping you had an excellent Thanksgiving. We had Tim's parents in for the week and had tons of fun. They came on Monday night so while the kids were at school on Tuesday, we went to the D Day Memorial in Bedford. We were the only people there for the first tour of the day so we received a private one. It was as impressive as the last time we went. I can't wait to go in the spring when the 116 cherry trees are in bloom. Monday, November 24, 2014. My roommate and friend from coll...

Life Under the Bigtop Too: I Know What You Did This Summer, The Deck Edition

http://lifeunderthebigtoptoo.blogspot.com/2015/07/i-know-what-you-did-this-summer-deck.html

Tuesday, July 28, 2015. I Know What You Did This Summer, The Deck Edition. Not even a freaking swim meet Monday update? Well let's catch up on all the excitement of Chez McK! The deck was old when we bought our house almost 12 years ago. In the time since, it most definitely has not improved. Witness the dank. And the dank is not the worst part, when you look at the unsafe and dangerous. We finally bit the bullet and started the project, stop one being the removal of said shitty deck. We added a walkway ...

A field notebook of suburban life. How is your midlife crisis treating you? For me, I want to throw more parties, do more higher-level charity work, and write. Maybe start a rock band of like-minded women, and secretly rock out in the garage. I bet Lilly Pulitzer would do an electric guitar, if we asked. They’ve done bikes and jeeps; how hard could it be? Take up golf, again. Travel. Live a life with less stuff, and more experiences. 9 More Inches: Write Your Own Joke, Here. First time in snow pants!

A field notebook of suburban life. Posted in Suburban Field Notes. The temperature finally crossed the freezing line and for the first time in six weeks I was able to get my car out of the garage. Oh, sweet freedom! I ran errands. But it still counts as freedom, right? I had a coffee I didn’t make in one hand, and for a few seconds in each parking lot I paused to enjoy the slightly-more-than-freezing temperatures. Twenty, thirty-five, fifty. How is your midlife crisis treating you? This weekend, an old f...

Pieces of my life: from the perspective of a 40-something mother and more. Still here →. Soup feel the love. March 3, 2014. Y’all, I was afraid I might have forgotten my password to get in here to post. Or that WordPress might have changed everything around so much I couldn’t figure out where to go. But, happily, though they have changed up some stuff for sure, I think I can still figure it out. This was originally a post, but at the very least the man deserves his own page. He puts up with a lot.). I’ve been getting some grief for referring to my beloved as The Most Prudent Man (in the World), and okay, I can imagine that it might have some negative connotation. Prudent=Prude, or something. Suggests wise self-restraint, as in resisting a rash impulse. The M...

Pieces of my life: from the perspective of a 40-something mother and more. Today i reframe failure. In which i am irreverent, and condone a killing to boot. May 9, 2013. It is late spring, and the season of fully sanctioned worship in our public schools. Separation of church and state, perhaps, but now let us bow down for the great portion of the school day and pay obeisance at the feet of the god of standardized testing. Life Under the City Lights

Life Under the City Lights. Tuesday, October 16, 2012. I do not live in the south anymore. Us southern girls can survive winter with a nice, sturdy pea coat. However, that is just not the case here. I've already been wearing what I like to call my "winter" coat. And its only October- fall at that! Needless to say I'm in the market for a new coat that I can wear when it actually gets cold here. I found this at J. Crew Factory on. I'm talking 40% off. Long Belted Puffer Jacket. Friday, October 12, 2012.
