Life With Sophia: Mistakes Were Made
http://lifewithsophia.blogspot.com/2012/06/mistakes-were-made.html
Reflective Parenting informed by psychology, inspired by real life with Sophia. Monday, June 11, 2012. You might want to read Gone Girl before reading my blog. It is thoroughly entertaining and worth the hours I stayed up too late to read it. I’ll loan it to you, if you’d like. But, you don’t have to have read the book to get the blog. Up to you…. What’s worse than having one parent who’s a psychologist? Having two parents who are psychologists. In Gillian Flynn’s new book, Gone Girl. As if we would be s...
Life With Sophia: Getting in the Game
http://lifewithsophia.blogspot.com/2014/09/getting-in-game.html
Reflective Parenting informed by psychology, inspired by real life with Sophia. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Getting in the Game. When Sophia and I returned from camp at the end of August, there was an email waiting in my inbox:. Become part of history as Youth Field Hockey begins its inaugural season in [our town]! A group of dedicated moms were starting a program that extended all the way down to first grade. When I was in school, I had wanted to play field hockey. If field hockey has a half time.
Life With Sophia: Oh No I've Said Too Much (I Haven't Said Enough)
http://lifewithsophia.blogspot.com/2014/10/oh-no-ive-said-too-much-i-havent-said.html
Reflective Parenting informed by psychology, inspired by real life with Sophia. Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Oh No I've Said Too Much (I Haven't Said Enough). After being in the first grade for, oh, about a week or so, Sophie came home with an Internet Contract that, together, we had to read and she had to sign (or at least print her name semi-legibly). It marked the advent of her online presence. First, I read how it was very important that she keep her user name and password a secret. 8220;From you too?
Life With Sophia: July 2014
http://lifewithsophia.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Reflective Parenting informed by psychology, inspired by real life with Sophia. Tuesday, July 22, 2014. The greatest shock of reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As an adult (aside from the dark humor, e.g. Chapter 10:. The Family Begins to Starve-. That must have drifted right past me as a child) is how quick a read it is. I remember rich, delicious descriptions that I realize now, must have been colored in by my eager imagination. Together, Sophia and I read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Life With Sophia: If She Falls, She Won't Die
http://lifewithsophia.blogspot.com/2015/01/if-she-falls-she-wont-die.html
Reflective Parenting informed by psychology, inspired by real life with Sophia. Tuesday, January 20, 2015. If She Falls, She Won't Die. I am an anxious mother. Or rather, a mother who is anxious. With this anxiety comes the gift of prescience. I can see all possible catastrophes before they befall my daughter. Is she about to do a forward flip on the chair and a half? I yank her away from, if not certain death, two broken legs. Is this hovering or saving my impulsive kid from a trip to the emergency room?

Digging Up My Past. One woman's perspective on being an adult adoptee, her experiences with search and reunion, and other random thoughts sprinkled in. Tuesday, August 11, 2009. How, you might ask, did things go after you found your birth mother? Did you talk and then never speak again? Do you care about finding out more about your biological father? How, What, Who, When? She has two sisters but she always intended to keep one of the angels for herself so why didn't she order three? Her surprise in order...

Digging Up My Past. One woman's perspective on being an adult adoptee, her experiences with search and reunion, and other random thoughts sprinkled in. Wednesday, January 27, 2010. To Meet or Not To Meet? Deciding whether or not to meet wasn't really a discussion L and I ever had. We spoke on the phone weekly for the first year after I found her and occasionally made reference to that day when we would "finally meet in person.". She loved me but the shame of relinquishing me and the fear of what others t...

Looking Back | Read Out Loud
https://readoutloud.wordpress.com/2011/04/11/looking-back
Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; Bucket List Deadline: June 2019. Today I played hooky. No, I didn’t get a pedicure. I surprised my 94 year-old Grandmother with an impromptu visit in the middle of the day. When I arrived, she had just finished her chair exercise class and was in the dining room at a table by herself. It always makes me a little sad when I find her sitting by herself for meals. That said it’s never for very long. However, today, I was relieved that I didn’t have to share her.

Digging Up My Past. One woman's perspective on being an adult adoptee, her experiences with search and reunion, and other random thoughts sprinkled in. Thursday, January 28, 2010. The tickets were purchased, the hotel reservations made, the reply card returned for my cousin's wedding. A day I had waited a lifetime for was actually going to happen. So why was I so calm? Why wasn't I nervous? Why I wasn't freaking out? Would we have similar mannerisms? What would she think? I wasn't nervous at all. I w...

Digging Up My Past. One woman's perspective on being an adult adoptee, her experiences with search and reunion, and other random thoughts sprinkled in. Monday, July 27, 2009. Turns Out Someone Actually Reads Those Things. In the end, it turns out that all the research in the world cant take the place of pure dumb luck. In the end, what eventually enabled me to find my birth family was a fluke, a joke, a serendipitous chain of events that yielded me results I might have otherwise never reached. Quirky, ou...

Tuesday, September 16, 2014. A Time to Mourn and a Time to Dance. Sometimes we need moments to mourn the brokenness of this fallen world. To grieve the fact that there is so much loss in our own lives and in the lives of those we love; loss of life, relationships, and hope for the future. Today was one of those days for me. I sat in my quiet living room and cried. Brokenness is inevitable in this world tainted by sin. Sometimes we need to take time in our lives to let that soak in. To stop av...Since Mag...

So if you are like me and struggle to throw things away or keeping places clutter free here are some things to try to change that. Set a time of year to always go through your place and do a good cleaning – hence the term Spring Cleaning. Although you could really pick any time of year to do this, just pick one and stick to it! "To be vulnerable..." C.S. Lewis
To be vulnerable." C.S. Lewis. Thursday, December 8, 2011. As I sit in the midst of a busy Panera, working on finals, in the height of the Christmas season, I glance up and see a man just seated bow his head to pray. I am reminded that even in this loud hubbub God is here and we are His children. Thank you Lord for bringing my eyes up to see and my mind to be on you. Wednesday, September 14, 2011. Monday, July 21, 2014. Sorry for the blogging hiatus. It's nothing personal, believe me. But, I'm finding a family of 6 requires a fair amount of attention! And my office is no longer in my home, so, you know. I'm relying more on Instagram and Facey than I'd like to. My children keep growing. They keep getting older and smarter, dammit! Is this happening to you too? My body has been telling me that I'm perhaps pushing the envelope a bit much. This is me with crutches and Gretta helping me. Bless! Well, I...
