Tim's Talk: Journey to a New Home Day 1: An Auspicious Journey with an Auspicious Number?
http://timgraves.blogspot.com/2011/08/auspicious-journey-with-auspicious.html
Journey to a New Home Day 1: An Auspicious Journey with an Auspicious Number? Curious. Our hotel room tonight is numbered 206. Our room number at the Wheeling Super 8 on our last night in West Virginia was 206. I remember clearly because 206 was my efficiency apartment at seminary for three years. Coincidence? I'm simultaneously skeptical and open-minded about this. For the time being, I'll just say, "curious" and admit I have something to reflect upon. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Tim's Talk: Zen Ice Trays
http://timgraves.blogspot.com/2012/07/zen-ice-trays.html
Any drink is improved with ice. I put ice in my drinks in the hot summer, the warm spring, cool fall, and even the cold winter months. At least a couple of times a day the ice trays in my fridge need refilling. Turning the tap on to a fast, steady stream does a poor job of filling the trays, it not only wastes water as it splatters, but I get wet. There is no fast way to fill the trays. I breathe in and I breathe out. I breathe in and I breathe out. I breathe in and I breathe out. Sins of the Church.

Tim's Talk: An Auspicious Rainbow
http://timgraves.blogspot.com/2012/04/auspicious-rainbow.html
Honest. I managed my time well this morning. Nonetheless, we were late for church.again. I blame my wife. Look at the rainbow! She pointed out the window. I stopped and stared in awe. The vibrant, full rainbow arched from the Oregon side of the Columbia to the Washington side. In many ways Palm Sunday is a day of naiveté. The first followers of Jesus thought they knew the whole story. Though, according to the gospel storyline, Jesus told his disciples that things would take a bad turn, they still...But l...

Tim's Talk: Tweets While Dealing with UPS
http://timgraves.blogspot.com/2011/08/tweets-while-dealing-with-ups.html
Tweets While Dealing with UPS. I shipped a flat panel plasma TV to my father last week. It arrived broken with a gash through the side of the box. I filed a claim online. They communicated with my father to pick it up and inspect it, then, inexplicably thought I would want my broken TV back even as they approved my claim. I received incorrect information on the telephone yesterday. To become more people friendly? I shipped this TV to my father last week. They damaged it. Best Buy supposedly takes BROKEN ...

Tim's Talk: Respond or Ignore? Racism
http://timgraves.blogspot.com/2011/04/respond-or-ignore-racism.html
I came across this video last evening. The language (spurred by passion) may offend some but he rightly places the events of yesterday within its historical and cultural context. He was responding to Donald Trump's immediate response following the President's short statement and release of his long form birth certificate. ( That video can be found here. Tim's Talk: Emptying Barns at One-Year
http://timgraves.blogspot.com/2011/08/emptying-barns-at-one-year.html
Emptying Barns at One-Year. I remember it clearly. The two of us were sitting up in the bed, the bedroom of our three-bedroom house, after a. Refreshing afternoon nap. My wife Maggie and I decided on that day that we were serious enough about letting go of our possessions to finally go public. So, I blogged our plans. ( You can find that blog here. Our journey has far exceeded our initial plan to let go of a mere 1000 items in one year. Today marks one-year. A Spiritual Journey that Confounds. Looking In...

Tim's Talk: Year-End Reflection: Leading the Malleable Life Amid Hurricane-Force Winds
http://timgraves.blogspot.com/2011/12/year-end-reflection-leading-malleable.html
Year-End Reflection: Leading the Malleable Life Amid Hurricane-Force Winds. A new friend recently described my life as malleable. I didn't like her choice of words because malleable. Connotes being beholden to outside influences. So, to prove her wrong, I looked it up in a couple dictionaries. I proved myself wrong. Malleable refers to a material that can be bent "without breaking or cracking" (1). It can also be something that has "a capacity for adaptive change" ( 2. Mt Hood as seen from. Acting intuit...

Tim's Talk: Letting Go: Yep, We Need to Go that Far
http://timgraves.blogspot.com/2012/08/letting-go-yep-we-need-to-go-that-far.html
Letting Go: Yep, We Need to Go that Far. Mindi Welton-Mitchell writes that the church needs to "let go of the building" in Letting Go. She builds her case well but stops short when she states, "I’m not suggesting everyone go out and sell their buildings.". I disagree. We need to go that far. They left the security of their fishing business. He did not build a synagogue and call people to him. He walked among the people. The cost of discipleship to Jesus is ceding control to God. Following Jesus requi...
