The Early Birder: Whinchat - Leasowe
http://ajonestheearlybirder.blogspot.com/2015/04/whinchat-leasowe.html
My Photographs from the North West and wherever I may roam. Let me know when that tide's coming in won't you. Sunday, 19 April 2015. Migration is in full swing and the birds are getting better, and still coming. An early morning start on the Wirral turned up a few surprises with a Sedge Warbler calling. A Willow Warbler was the first of the year, as were half a dozen Swallows. Only the second time I've seen one. I'm hoping I can see a few more this year. For now though, I'm happy with this one. 20 April ...

The Early Birder: Red-throated Pipit
http://ajonestheearlybirder.blogspot.com/2015/05/red-throated-pipit.html
My Photographs from the North West and wherever I may roam. Let me know when that tide's coming in won't you. Thursday, 7 May 2015. Word came through on Sunday, of a rather scarce bird for this country, and even more so for my county. A Red-throated Pipit was discovered up on the moors of Manchester and Derbyshire (in fact right on the border of the two). 7 May 2015 at 17:40. A pretty pipit, much prettier than the American Pipit I think. 9 May 2015 at 10:03. 9 May 2015 at 10:22. 9 May 2015 at 10:30.

My Photographs from the North West and wherever I may roam. Let me know when that tide's coming in won't you. Thursday, 16 April 2015. Last night I managed to see my first Pied Flycatcher and Redstart of the year. It was getting dark, but I managed a few shots. I hope to see some more in the next few weeks. 16 April 2015 at 12:37. Flied Piecatchers (as I tended to call them in my youth! Are such great birds - used to see them in old woodlands in Devon. Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne. You did well Adam, e...

The Early Birder: January 2015
http://ajonestheearlybirder.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
My Photographs from the North West and wherever I may roam. Let me know when that tide's coming in won't you. Wednesday, 28 January 2015. Long Tailed Duck - Crosby Marine Lake. Now both wet and cold (rather than just cold) it drifted a little closer with the aid of some very vocal people in a canoe. Sadly this was as close as it got, and these shots really are no more than record shots. I hope to see another one with better light one day. A nice looking duck all the same. Links to this post. Now, I've tr...

The Early Birder: March 2015
http://ajonestheearlybirder.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
My Photographs from the North West and wherever I may roam. Let me know when that tide's coming in won't you. Sunday, 29 March 2015. Great Grey Shrike - Beeley Moor. The forecast was not good and the clocks went forward too, so an hour less sleep, but I was so fed up with yesterdays disappointing birding day, I thought sod it I'm going. It was still dark and there was only me on the road for a lot of the way. Grainy image, but really shows of that killer bill.. Links to this post. Thursday, 26 March 2015.

The Early Birder: Great Spotted Woodpecker
http://ajonestheearlybirder.blogspot.com/2015/05/great-spotted-woodpecker.html
My Photographs from the North West and wherever I may roam. Let me know when that tide's coming in won't you. Monday, 11 May 2015. It seemed oblivious to my presence, as I hid behind my car. It allowed me to get quite close to a bird that it usually quite difficult to capture. Labels: Great Spotted Woodpecker. 11 May 2015 at 08:09. I hear them often but rarely see them. Your photos are a joy to see. Excellent. 11 May 2015 at 13:01. Greetings, Jo (South Africa). 11 May 2015 at 20:06. 11 May 2015 at 20:41.

The Early Birder: December 2014
http://ajonestheearlybirder.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
My Photographs from the North West and wherever I may roam. Let me know when that tide's coming in won't you. Tuesday, 30 December 2014. For most of the year I find the Wren notoriously hard to spot. Usually in thick dense undergrowth, keeping out of harms way, whilst teasing me with its tick tick alarm call. Come the colder winter months though they are forced from their cover to forage more widely for food, or is just that there are less leaves on the trees and bushes? Come on, turn round.. Shelducks ...

The Early Birder: Grey Heron
http://ajonestheearlybirder.blogspot.com/2015/04/grey-heron.html
My Photographs from the North West and wherever I may roam. Let me know when that tide's coming in won't you. Friday, 24 April 2015. The Heronries in my area are in full swing. There are young in the nests. What a racket these birds and their babies make. It's almost like a squeal of someone in severe pain. Until I lay my eyes on the birds I'm always a little disturbed, and even then I think is there really any need for such a noise. A pleasure to see at any time though. Coming in to land in a tree.
