We live in Houston, where the Vietnamese community is huge and there is no shortage of banh mi shops, so I could just drive 10 minutes and pick up some. But so why make it if it’s easily available? Resting sucks. Cooking rocks. I can always count on The Ravenous Couple’s. Recipes as a starting point for Vietnamese food. Their bo luc lac. Pickled Carrots and Daikon.

heart shaped bread mishap | Eatyet's Weblog
https://eatyet.wordpress.com/2008/09/11/heart-shaped-bread-mishap
Heart shaped bread mishap. September 11, 2008 at 3:24 pm. I shaped some dough. Into a batard (a shorter wider baguette, inspired by an episode of ‘Baking with Julia’), and after resting I made three slits. But when I was transferring it into the oven, it fell in and folded over itself. I decided to make an extra slit on the bottom piece that was sticking out and baked it all the same (in an enameled cast iron pot). When it came out it was strangely symmetrical and heart shaped. 3. 8 Comments Add your own.
