A journal of our adventures. Sunday, December 30, 2012. Summer in The Hills. We spent the middle of 2012 driving around, hiking, and camping in the Black Hills. Here are a few of the highlights. In May we explored a section of the Centennial Trail. A 111 mile trail marking the 100th anniversary of South Dakota statehood (1889-1989). There is a trail head about 20 minutes from our house! A journal of our adventures. Sunday, December 30, 2012. We traveled to Kansas for Christmas. It had been an entire year since we had been back to Ark City. We enjoyed lazy days at Mom's house and special time with family and tradition in Topeka. Rick helped Uncle Jim fix some family recipes, including noodles, dressing, and meatballs. A journal of our adventures. Sunday, December 30, 2012. Cool weather arrived along with fall color, the most spectacular of which was to be found in Spearfish Canyon. We took a hike along Iron Creek to enjoy the views. In October we rode our 4-wheeler to Nemo for lunch. It was 2 hours over on parts of the Centennial Trail and 20 minutes back on the gravel roads! A journal of our adventures. Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Rick and I did a 2-night backpack trip into Merriam Lake in the Lost River Range, which contains the highest peak in Idaho - Mt. Borah - at 12,668 ft. http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borah Peak. But that's another story. Back to Merriam. The drive is quite long, and very rough in the end, from Boise. A journal of our adventures. Thursday, November 19, 2009. Rick and I flew to Kansas to go see an Oklahoma State football game with my parents. We had. To do this last year, but the kick-off time was changed without our knowing and we missed it! This year, we had success. What fun it was! After the all-you-can-eat pregame. Summer finally got here, and although it hasn't been warm long enough to melt the snow in the prime backpacking areas, we did make it out last weekend for an over-nighter.
