Literary Interpretation: Iraq War
http://mitchellsweet.blogspot.com/2007/10/iraq-war_30.html
Tuesday, October 30, 2007. Here is another youtube video that I found kind of amazing. It is a video of Dick Cheney in 1994 talking about it being a terrible idea to invade Iraq and that in his own words Cheney says that invading Baghdad would be "Quagmire". I found it funning that after saying this Cheney thought that it would be a good idea to invade Iraq eight years later. Cheney in 1994. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Frankie's Blog: Persepolis links
http://frankievelazquez.blogspot.com/2007/11/persepolis-links.html
Tuesday, November 13, 2007. The books Persepolis 1&2 both deal with the Cultural Revolution that took place from 1980-1987. This link. Is to a page that summarizes it. It to a youtube video of a man who briefly describes the situation in Iran and how it has changed since the Cultural Revolution. It's a bit short but I think it gets the message across. I also found this very interesting video. Of Sadat and the Shah of Iran in an interview from many years ago with who appears to be the Imam of Egypt.

Ian's Lit Blog: December 2007
http://immagee.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 5, 2007. I have read this book before and in rereading it I'm really disappointed that I waited this long to pick it back up. It is a collection of maxims and advice that fortunately, while it has a spiritual feel, does not really identify itself with any particular religion. That may be the defining point of the book, its universality. Work is love made visible. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Tuesday, November 27, 2007. After browsing around on Wikipedia and other websites, I found out quite a bit of information about Turkey (and read quite a bit that I already knew). One of the more interesting things I found was an article on Wikipedia about the issue of secularism in Turkey. Wednesday, November 14, 2007. Upon completion of Fatima Mernissi's memoir Dreams of Trespass. Woman at Point Zero. Firdaus's mother died when she was very young and she had no other mother-figures in her life to set an...

Sunday, September 30, 2007. The Road to Peace. Http:/ www.youtube.com/watch? Wednesday, September 26, 2007. Wake up it's time to be away. Now's not the time to go astray. Greet the morning one more time. And keep your tiredness at bay. This place is great, wide and mild. A place, it's shocking, once defiled. This is the way that it should stay. For things are best when left wild. Here we sit and there they stand. It must be nature's own demand. Climbing them's a young man's game. I Dream of Jinni. The la...

Oriental Interpretations: Rubaiyats
http://oriental-interpretations.blogspot.com/2007/09/rubaiyats.html
Wednesday, September 26, 2007. I admit that I find the Rubaiyat. Beautiful poetry, though I know it partakes of stereotypes and repetitions about the Middle East, likely magnified by translators. The idea of a paradise of ease, sensuality, wine, and carelessness is just so alluring. The orientalist. Images from publications of the Rubiayat. That we examined in class are especially troubling - like the one I have included here by Arthur Szyk from the 1946 Heritage Press edition. Yes I do enjoy the class, ...
