letters from africa: July 2012
http://liseinsouthafrica.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Journeys to the southern hemisphere part i: south africa and part ii: mozambique. Friday, July 27, 2012. Bem Vindo e Pemba. We landed in the dark so who knew what our first morning would hold when we woke up in the Aga Khan Foundation guesthouse and saw Pemba in sunlight? Luckily the sun rises at 5am as we had no power or water when we stumbled out of the house, but that became a minor issue as we walked across the road onto Wimbe beach. One of the Makonde arts and crafts centres. During that first day, ...

Journeys to the southern hemisphere part i: south africa and part ii: mozambique. Tuesday, July 23, 2013. It's been a while. Luckily, scattered within these busy months, there were still weekends, a trip to the big city, birthday parties, engagement parties, boat parties, and the inescapable farewell parties. My birthday turned into a weeklong extravaganza with a beautiful surprise dinner (thanks Sarah! And mammoth princess cake (thanks Luis! The mastermind behind the birthday dinner (and fellow Taurus).

http://liseinsouthafrica.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Journeys to the southern hemisphere part i: south africa and part ii: mozambique. Friday, November 25, 2011. Chef Lumka's New House. Lumka is now just around the corner from me and we have taken full advantage of being neighbours in my last weeks left in South Africa. I am proud to say I was there the very first day she moved into her garden cottage and have now spent many nights learning new recipes to bring home (with perhaps some ingredient substitutes! I know you are all sick of hearing about. I have...

http://liseinsouthafrica.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Journeys to the southern hemisphere part i: south africa and part ii: mozambique. Monday, January 28, 2013. Although we have seen a definite change in our weather, with more rain, wind and storms, we have been lucky to avoid the major flooding in the south of the country. Friday, January 18, 2013. Ooh, so trendy. The January issue of VOGUE magazine. A private island in the Quirimbas Archipelago, right on our doorstep. Wednesday, January 16, 2013. So, um, we're going to Tanzania tomorrow. As we had our pr...

Dressed like a goddess… | Pearls of Wisdom
https://eastafricanpearlsofwisdom.wordpress.com/2012/10/08/dressed-like-a-goddess
An exploration of and education in East Africa. October 8, 2012. Dressed like a goddess…. Need I say more. Thought those who are hoping I’m healthy and happy would enjoy seeing me having some fun with friends for a ‘girls’ night out’ event at the Kampala Sheraton which I was luckily invited to, as it is an invite-only kind of thing (it may be dawning on you that Kampala is a necessarily cliquey place where wealth, status and connections determine a whole lot). Woman with Kettle, circa 2012. Address never...
Iftar Pictures | bangladeshbound
https://bangladeshbound.wordpress.com/iftar-pictures
The experiences of an AKFC international fellow in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Pictures from various iftar meals and iftar markets. The Gulshan-1 market right before Iftar time. Gulshan is split into 1 and 2, and I live in 1, about a ten minute walk from the market. It’s very convenient, only the problem is because it’s the exclusive area, almost everything in the market is imported and therefore way overpriced! We’ve gotten much better at bargaining though. Some iftar foods waiting to be bought. Then, after havi...

The experiences of an AKFC international fellow in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Monthly Archives: January 2013. January 2, 2013. Myanmar Final Installment- Inle Lake. This gallery contains 254 photos. Photos from the last leg of my trip, to Inle Lake. There are many, because it was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The pagodas and temples of Bagan were amazing, but the natural beauty of Inle was just spectacular. Enjoy! Myanmar Final Installment- Inle Lake. Myanmar Part 3: Mandalay and Old Capitals.

A play-by-play of my yesterday | Pearls of Wisdom
https://eastafricanpearlsofwisdom.wordpress.com/2012/11/29/a-play-by-play-of-my-yesterday
An exploration of and education in East Africa. November 29, 2012. A play-by-play of my yesterday. The dirt path down to the road had become slimy, with two small rivers of orange water creating indented paths that I extended my legs over and around cautiously. The pants I had rolled up three or four times were already soaked. I walked down my road trying to escape any vehicles that would splash me as they zipped by, taking extra care around the growing puddles. A student dancing to the music. And anothe...
Cycling in Dhaka | bangladeshbound
https://bangladeshbound.wordpress.com/cycling-in-dhaka
The experiences of an AKFC international fellow in Dhaka, Bangladesh. CC, or Cyclists’ Cafe, the room in the garage of someone’s apartment where you can buy a range of cycling accessories or a sandwich, where they often meet, and where you can get your bike fixed by the mechanic “who’s been working on bikes since he was 8 years old” who always seems to be hanging out there, no matter what time of day or night it is! More of Gulshan lake. Another green space, in the north of Dhaka called Uttara. It...
First impressions & adventures | bangladeshbound
https://bangladeshbound.wordpress.com/2012/07/15/first-impressions-adventures
The experiences of an AKFC international fellow in Dhaka, Bangladesh. July 15, 2012. First impressions & adventures. Today marks the eleventh day I’ve been here, though in a funny way it seems at the same time as if I both just arrived and left home ages ago. But I guess that’s just what being in a totally new environment does to you! I’m definitely in the good ol’ honeymoon phase of international experiences nothing bothers me, and everything is new and delightful. Of bicycle horns as the various vehicl...

My Journey to the Roof of the World. Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Salom friends and family,. Greetings from my 8-storey concrete apartment building located behind the infamous Segafredo Café at the intersection of the two busiest streets of Dushanbe: Rudaki Avenue and Ismoil Somoni Avenue. I arrived safely in Dushanbe about two weeks ago, moved into the new place this past weekend and finally was able to take a big breath of relief and can gladly say i’ve settled in. Sylhet ECD Center #2 | bangladeshbound
https://bangladeshbound.wordpress.com/sylhet-ecd-center-2
The experiences of an AKFC international fellow in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Sylhet ECD Center #2. The second ECD center we visited, the FIVDB “innovation” center, where they’re testing out a pilot project in integrated early childhood development for 3 – 4 year-olds. Before starting the story, the teacher had them all display their fingernails, to see if they’d washed them, and then had them demonstrate how to brush their teeth…. All the children, in all the centers, were extremely well behaved and engaged wit...

8220;Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” —Howard Thurman. Saturday, May 11, 2013. She sits alone and why that means I won't be going to Haiti this summer. She sits alone in a Subway Restaurant. Dressed in a matching blue outfit, her walker by the table. I can see her worn wedding ring on her left hand, yet she sits alone. She has a conversation, with whom I don't know. She looks so familiar,. This summer...

Lise i Thailand!
To Krishna: This is the model on the dress my mother wanted (but she want it straight down). If any questions, please take contact, :) Lise.
