Literal Thoughts

Thursday, August 31, 2006. A close friend called me from Iraq today. I excused myself, picked up the phone and said "I'm so sorry, can I call you back, I'm in a meeting? I heard on the other end, "sure, of course" and I replied quickly "I'll call you back, take care.". I called back an hour or so later. When the phone picked up I got, "I'm so sorry, can I call you back? A bomb just went off very nearby.". Business meetings instantly become trivial. Posted by Kerry at 8/31/2006 09:57:00 AM. Literal Thoughts: September 2005

http://literalthoughts.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 18, 2005. Posted by Kerry at 9/18/2005 05:45:00 PM. Friday, September 16, 2005. Taking it out of context. It's not often that anything I read keeps me up at night. But last night was different. And when I read this. Last night, as I had been meaning to do for over a week, it couldn't have been more perfect timing. Because it gave me the tools to be able to make it into something I could put my head around. Here is the necessary part of the post to understand:. You better believe it....

Literal Thoughts: Dude, where's my State?

http://literalthoughts.blogspot.com/2006/03/dude-wheres-my-state.html

Thursday, March 02, 2006. Dude, where's my State? I had to travel back from Boston to NH in late December and this has been bothering me ever since. I grew up in New Hampshire. By grade one I learned all about General John Stark and our State Motto, which is "Live Free or Die". On my paternal side, my relatives helped settle the State in the late 1600's. I'm a Yankee girl for sure. And I used to be proud, proud that New Hampshire was proud. Dude, where's my State? Posted by Kerry at 3/02/2006 06:47:00 AM.

Literal Thoughts: What a difference a year makes...

http://literalthoughts.blogspot.com/2006/03/what-difference-year-makes.html

Saturday, March 18, 2006. What a difference a year makes. St Patrick's Day. I'm named after Kerry County in Ireland. But I'm not thinking of celebrating with Guiness this year, in fact I'm only thinking of one thing really today, and that's the green I was seeing on this day last year, when I first set foot in Iraq. And how I miss it. And how I miss more those that I shared it with. Here's the glass we raised last year guys, so my wish today, is all the luck of the Irish go to Iraq. Best regards from NY!

Literal Thoughts: Amnesty in Iraq

http://literalthoughts.blogspot.com/2006/06/amnesty-in-iraq.html

Tuesday, June 27, 2006. When the news broke. And I found it here two hours before it hit Yahoo news) that so many groups (at least 7 and now perhaps more) were interested in speaking with Maliki's government regarding how they might join the political process yesterday, I spoke with a lot of people that are effected directly. There is a symposium. On this today at NRO. What I had to ask myself was this. What is the alternative? We aren’t going to kill them all, and they aren’t going anywhere.

Literal Thoughts: June 2005

http://literalthoughts.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 25, 2005. Technology and the Mindsets that Drive It. NYC Manhattan. A wonderful apartment. A beautiful sunset. Lots of champagne. A roomful of techies. And me. (Ok, Ok, one or two other non-techies, but only one other do-tanker.). This has been a common situation for me in the past year. (Not the NY, sunset part, but the roomful of techies and me part! Again, I am back to the do-tank, think-tank discussion. And you know what? When I wanted to help, I would never have met Jeff Jarvis. Etc, ...

Sooni: November 2005

Friday, November 25, 2005. These are pictures of the military parade made by security keeping forces to. The US soldiers were there observing closely. Posted by sooni @ 10:40 PM. Tuesday, November 22, 2005. A clearer vision and a new starting point. Too many things happened in Iraq the past few days:. This is the first time when all Iraqis say "No" to terror "even if not all of them meant it" because Zarqawi used to speak in the name of Sunni Arab and now they dropped him! All the big entities came apart...

Friday, October 27, 2006. Few things about the situation in Iraq. Through few emails I exchanged with Paul Seale of Arena of Ideas. He asked me few questions about the situation in Iraq, I would like to share our conversation with you. AA: Could you tell our readers where you live? Sooni: I live in Baghdad-Iraq. AA:Many talking heads here in the United States have said recently that Iraq was better under Saddam. What do you believe and what do you say to those people? Will bring back stability to Iraq!

Thursday, April 14, 2005. Better late than never. Maybe I'm a little bit late for blogging but as they say better late than never, about me I'm a free Iraqi person who would like to express himself a little so wish me luck and pardon me for my English you will find too many mistakes (grammar and spelling) but I still hope that you will be able to get what I mean. Thursday, March 09, 2006. Woman day in Iraq. This picture was drawn by a prisoner mother who lost her daughter in a terrorist act while she is in prison. One of the prisoners painted this picture and wrote "stop injustice against the Iraqi woman". This one is asking the Muslims about the mercy of God upon the women because the devil is torturing them in the name of the law. Posted by sooni @ 8:32 PM. Posted by sooni @ 6:52 PM. Tuesday, January 23, 2007. A continued conversation with Paul. This is my second conversation with Paul of Arena of Ideas. He had few questions for me about the situation in Iraq:. Paul: What is the situation on the ground right now? Eg are they stabilizing, getting worse or just more of the same? Paul: What was the Iraqi reaction to Democrats winning in November, or do they understand the American election process? The people feel more relief for more American presence in Baghdad. People started to ...

Sooni: September 2005

http://justsooni.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 29, 2005. It seems that Zarqawi and his group are running out of ways to sabotage the political process so he decided to play his last card, the civil war. The big difference between the insanity of Zarqawi and the sanity of Sistany is what the Iraqis count on to avoid the civil war and to propel the political process and have peace in Iraq. One important question left that anyone might ask "does Zarqawi represent the Sunni Arab in Iraq? Second, those powers have connections with the ...

Sooni: December 2006

http://justsooni.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 31, 2006. Saddam's execution: right thing done the wrong way. It is ironic how good things turn to be bad in Iraq. Justice served and Saddam got what he deserved. Like many Iraqis remembering his days, I believe the execution is the least he deserves, but let us see how the right thing was done! The TV channels that covered the event did not play all the video. One of my friends emailed me the full video link. Just like always, to make one step forward we end with three steps backward!

Sooni: October 2005

http://justsooni.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 29, 2005. I wrote this post in response to few questions asked by one of the readers (he is a blogger too, Peter M. He asked: "Sooni, what do I tell the liberals that say we should leave? Do the majority of Iraqis hate the Americans and want them out? Are they even aware or grateful of the sacrifices that the soldiers and their families have to endure? To answer these questions I need to go through some facts and assessments I hope you will be patient to read to the end. The first and t...

Sooni: December 2005

http://justsooni.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 26, 2005. Waiting for the final results. Things are running very fast in Iraq and everyday brings more and more surprises. Let me talk first about the elections results. Well, what we were afraid of came true and the Iraqi people elected their representatives on "sectarian bases" and in my opinion this is the biggest problem so far. Our people still don't believe in the democracy to protect them and they find it a good way to show their affiliation only. I don’t have a clue about the com...

The meat of the story and the small circle of friends Jam finds at her new school for emotionally fragile teens is a bit Breakfast Clubby, but I enjoyed it. Sunday, June 28, 2009. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? I finally watched 'Watchmen' - and as a fan of the comic, I was glad to see the original plot hadn't been twisted beyond all recognition - barring a major plot device (altered sensibly, methinks) which I will leave readers to find out. NOTE: be warned - the film *is* violent. and graphic with it! The opening credits (accompanied by Bob Dylan's 'The times, they are a-changing) can be found @ http:/ nextround.net/2009/03/09/watchmen-opening-sequence/.
