Sunday, July 5, 2009. I know we have all see these in our reading, but how many of us know all of the rules for their usage? I certainly didn't so I looked them up and this is what I found:. 1 Use them in material that you want to de-emphasize or would not flow normally with the rest of the sentence. 2 If it appears within a sentence do not capitalize or end with a period even if it is a sentence itself.
