the “f” word (part II) | catching visions
https://spenge.wordpress.com/2009/05/16/the-f-word-part-ii
Looking out, around, and within. The “f” word (part II). May 16, 2009. That I recently posted about it, and despite the fact that we talked about it in Beer and Theology, I’m still thinking about that pesky ol’ “F” word. Yeah, that’s right:. We asked ourselves some hard questions at Beer and Theology: What does it feel like to forgive? Who does forgiveness benefit, the one in the wrong or the one who was wronged? These are hard questions. Forgiveness itself is hard. What does it mean to forgive? Looking ...

Looking out, around, and within. July 29, 2010. Written here in quite a while. And so, a year has passed: romantic relationships have come and gone, books have been read and passed on, weddings have been performed, coffee has been brewed, and new ventures are now on the horizon. I think it’s time I pick up my pencil and begin writing again. There is much to say these days. I was reminded of the mundane this morning as I read some from. A Friend To All Men: The Diary of a Worker-Priest. Resilient and earn...

Looking out, around, and within. April 27, 2009. Of my little back porch off my kitchen is a nest. A bird’s nest. Over the course of a few days, I watched the Mama bird and the Papa bird carefully construct the thick nest, with twigs of this and twigs of that, complete with lots of soft green moss. I keep watching for egg shells on the porch, or baby beaks peeking up from the nest. I keep listening for tiny squeaks from newborn birds. Nothing yet. 8220;Where did she go? If only we humans were as understa...

Looking out, around, and within. The “f” word. The “f” word (part II). May 9, 2009. She’s gotten quite. Used to us. Lil Mama is calm while I wash dishes. She is calm as I walk back and forth through the kitchen, making dinner. She was even calm and steady as my roomie Mary Frances rearranged our new flower pots on the porch beneath her. She was even calm as I, admittedly, got a little too close to take this photo. 8221; I immediately leave the kitchen; I didn’t need to wash those dishes anyway. On the ba...

Looking out, around, and within. The “f” word. May 2, 2009. This past week, we talked about the “F” word: FORGIVENESS. What does it mean to forgive? What does it feel like to forgive? Who does forgiveness benefit, the one in the wrong or the one who was wronged? One woman featured in the Project is Linda Biehl. Her daughter Amy, a white college student working in South Africa against Apartheid, was murdered in a black township. Linda’s is an amazing story, not of revenge, but of creative fo...Most of us ...

Looking out, around, and within. September 9, 2010. Day of hard work, hard laughter, good food, and good friends, I arrive in bed thoughtful about. Sometimes phases are seen as “good,” and sometimes they are seen as “bad,” but really, they just. At least for the moment. Phases aren’t permanent. Phases are pauses before change. Phases are about shifting. I’m in a phase where I’m really enjoying music I discovered in high school: Letters to Cleo, Dixie Chicks, Counting Crows. But…not quite yet. I am happy ...

Looking out, around, and within. May 25, 2009. Ahhh, Spring. Everything. Is bursting into life and springing into growth. As you can tell from my previous posts, I loved watching the baby birds grow and develop…just amazing! The trees around the house are fluffy and full with new green leaves. The dogwoods are in full bloom. The neighbor’s tulips have grown tall and colorful. Also growing around our house are…. Buckets of tomatoes and peppers on our back porch. And…. Feed for this Entry. Looking out, around, and within. The “f” word (part II). May 24, 2009. FIVE days, the little baby birdies literally doubled in size and ability. They went from……. Newly-feathered and sleeping all day to…. Sitting up a little. then to…. Sitting up a lot! Last night, I sat in the kitchen watching them stand on the edge of the nest, flapping their tiny wings. Lil Mama and Papa Bird zoomed back and forth past the nest as if to say, “This is how you flap your wings! See how I’m flying? Feed for this Entry.
