A store owner, a wheelwright (wagon wheels), sawmill owner/operator, and into many other less exciting short careers. Throughout all these he was also highly respected and sought out for his ability in building a local type of fishing boat for use in the rivers and lakes of Florida's Big Bend area. By far the most apparent feature of many of his larger boats was a built in hog in the bottom!
