Windmill Farm Nature Reserve: August 2012
http://wfarmnaturereserve.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Windmill Farm Nature Reserve. Sunday, 5 August 2012. There was a noticeable influx of the large hoverfly Helophilus trivittatu. S evident at the farm yesterday. I counted 30 and they far outnumbered the resident Helophilus pendulus. These are almost certainly immigramts from the Continent. They are larger and paler than pendulus. And their face is entirely yellow. Pendulus. Have a dark stripe down the centre of the face. Friday, 3 August 2012. Have you seen Erica? Cornish Heath (Erica vagans).

Tuesday, 16 April 2013. A large number of dead sea birds have been washed up on Par Beach and other places along the South Cornwall Coast presumably as a result of the chemical discharges at sea. I, and others have been collecting them for examination by Falmouth Marine School. This morning I located bags containing some 40 birds that had been gathered yesterday. Guillemot was found alive and taken away by a lady from Tywardreath to be passed to the RSPCA. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
