A Tough Hike: Mount Garfield and Galehead Mountain. Three words come to mind when I think about this past weekend’s hike: Oh. My. Goodness. Our lunch spot on Garfield. By the fire tower remnants. One of the many planks you encounter on the Garfield Ridge Trail. I think I summed this hike up pretty well on Galehead. The view from Galehead Hut. Chris and Milo waiting. Slow and steady wins the race right? On the 0.5 mile steep wet rocky portion of the Garfield Ridge Trail back to the campsite.

Another Weekend Over, Another NH48 Hiked: Mount Moriah. We’ve been hiking constantly this summer and it comes to no surprise that we were able to knock another NH48 off the list this past weekend: Mount Moriah. Located in the Carter-Moriah Range of the White Mountains near Gorham, Mount Moriah stands at an elevation of 4,049 feet. It is ranked 41st out of the 48 in terms of elevation. We started our day meeting Jimmy and Dion at the trailhead at 8:30 am. One of the views along the Carter-Moriah Trail.

The Last Presidential: Mount Monroe. When you think of hiking the last presidential in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, you might think Mount Washington. It is the tallest and most well-known of the bunch. However, for this post and hike, the last presidential for this lady means Mount Monroe. What do you do if one hits? Immediately return below the tree line, don’t lie down among the open rock above tree line, and stay flat on the soles of your feet. Family photo on Mount Monroe. We told them all t...

Such Great Heights : December 2013

http://sghnh48.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

It all started as one woman's journey. Now it's one woman and her dog's journey through the mountains of New England. Saturday, December 28, 2013. The O's for December. Ice and plenty of it. Could I restructure my winter season and still make it work? How can I live down turning back after driving for close to 2 hours? Then I remembered… It’s always worse than it looks. I got my crampons on and had some Gatorade which took away my shakes and got ready to ascend. Saturday, December 14, 2013. Knowing that ...

Saturday, November 30, 2013. 8220;You’re turning back? 8221; One of them said to me with a tone of really (? In her voice. I was floored that a hiker would question someone’s decision with such a tone. 8220;Yes, I am turning back.” I said quietly and kept looking down at Isis. “I can get it another time.” I mumbled as I walked away. Has a lot lower water level. Monday, November 25, 2013.

New Hampshire peak of the 48 and a lot of those have been in winter. For a small dog, she packs a lot of power. This morning, we were off for a solo day on the Wildcat’s, A through D and back again because dogs are not allowed on the Polecat trail down to the base of the ski slopes. It all started as one woman's journey. Now it's one woman and her dog's journey through the mountains of New England. Friday, December 30, 2011. Everest Conquered. A step back and a step forward on Monadnock. Start of the trail on Monadnock's Toll Road Trail Head. It was a foggy day which may have aided in my summit. Even before I got sick in 2010, I had… Issues. I know, who doesn’t have issues really? The first trail ladder I had ever climbed. The perfect acorn caught my eye. Tuesday, December 20, 2011.

And that included my finishing the 48. In that awkward, I don’t know what to do stage of being 12. Maybe I was not meant to do this anymore.” I ...8220;Th...
