John O'Groats 160 Miles. If you are not travelling by car then it is probably best to travel to Inverness which has good air, rail and coach links from the South. There is a regular bus service from Inverness to Fort Augustus. The journey takes around one hour. By road from Edinburgh via Forth Bridge (M9), which goes round Perth, then continue on the A9 to Dalwhinnie. From Dalwhinnie you travel to Spean Bridge and turn onto the Fort Augustus Inverness road.
