Monday, January 25, 2010. My family came to Navarro County before Texas was even a Republic. In 1834, they were made official landowners by way of a land grant in David Burnet's patent, approved by Santa Anna. I finished high school and moved away to get married and go to school (yes, in that order), and wasn't able to come back and work as much as I liked. So the place, while still productive and largely self-sufficient, continued the downhill slide that began when Buddy passed away.
