Game. Set. Match. Blog.: August 2008

Game Set. Match. Blog. All tennis, all the time, by a tennis player who dreams of US Open glory. Sunday, August 31, 2008. Tennis belongs to the individualistic past - a hero, or at most a pair of friends or lovers, against the world. The last two weeks of August belong to the US Open. And I wouldn't have it any other way. I grew up playing tennis at the USTA National Tennis Center. And Nikolay Davydenko easily dismiss their opponents, it really began to dawn on me, I haven't played much lately either.

Game Set. Match. Blog. All tennis, all the time, by a tennis player who dreams of US Open glory. Monday, April 13, 2009. It is never too late to be what you might have been. Clearly, March was not a month for tennis blogging. But it was a month for playing tennis. I've been playing more of it, that's for sure, even hitting the 6-hour mark during one week. And I'm close to deciding to sign up for USTA Team Tennis with a team that starts practicing at the end of the month. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Game. Set. Match. Blog.: tennis in the winter
http://racquetgirl.blogspot.com/2009/02/tennis-and-snow.html
Game Set. Match. Blog. All tennis, all the time, by a tennis player who dreams of US Open glory. Saturday, February 28, 2009. Tennis in the winter. In tennis, the addict moves about a hard rectangle and seeks to ambush a fuzzy ball with a modified snowshoe. It's been more than a month since I've last posted. In fact, the last post was right in the heat of the Australian Open. And my newfound appreciation for Fernando Verdasco. The three matches after that were as follows: 6-0, 6-0; 6-4, 2-5; 6-4, 1-5.

Game. Set. Match. Blog.: December 2008
http://racquetgirl.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Game Set. Match. Blog. All tennis, all the time, by a tennis player who dreams of US Open glory. Tuesday, December 23, 2008. When I was 40, my doctor advised me that a man in his 40s shouldn't play tennis. I heeded his advice carefully and could hardly wait until I reached 50 to start again. About half an hour later, she did, and was perhaps the nicest player I've played all season. Not to mention, I won 6-1, 6-0 and got off the court with time to spare. A Christmas gift well received, indeed. I got ther...

Game. Set. Match. Blog.: racquet wanted

Game Set. Match. Blog. All tennis, all the time, by a tennis player who dreams of US Open glory. Tuesday, December 2, 2008. It's shocking how little there is to do with tennis when you're just thinking about nothing except winning every point. The match is over when you shake hands. Never before. Ugh, to say the least. What happened? Whatever it was, it was unnecessary. It was a dorky, first-time-I've-ever-done-that moment. My thoughts went to Pete Sampras, who used to do it frequently during his mat...

Game. Set. Match. Blog.: November 2008
http://racquetgirl.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Game Set. Match. Blog. All tennis, all the time, by a tennis player who dreams of US Open glory. Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Corners, corners, corners. I think the tour should come up with something where they don't let players over 6' 6" play. My feet hurt. My arms hurt. My head hurts. Everything hurts. Four hours of tennis in one day isn't exactly a trip to the gym, so I guess I should've expected as much. My big lesson for the day? Corners, corners, corners. When I started to hit the ball there,...
