Reading Darwin, the Bible and Leopold with Rorty | Lost Borders
https://lostborders.wordpress.com/2010/03/30/reading-darwin-the-bible-and-leopold-with-rorty
Critique of Natural and Theological Discourses. Reading Darwin, the Bible and Leopold with Rorty. March 30, 2010 in Darwin. Rorty believed that since Darwin “we have gradually substituted the making of a better future for ourselves, constructing a utopian, democratic society, for the attempt to see ourselves form outside of time and history.” He believed our new hope is more useful than the old hope. Rorty believed the old hope impeded the new hope. Is that not as Darwinian as is the pragmatism of Rorty?

Critique of Natural and Theological Discourses. Santa Anita Canyon in Winter. March 5, 2012 in Canyons. In Emily Dickinson’s poem, one who died for truth and one who died for beauty were laid to rest in adjacent rooms of a tomb. They talked “until moss reached their lips.”. In her poem, the one who died for beauty died first. It is different now. If my death shall have any meaning, I pray it be for the sake of beauty, for the beauty of the earth. Ken on Nature’s Grace. Nature’s Grace | Lost Borders
https://lostborders.wordpress.com/2010/07/19/natures-grace
Critique of Natural and Theological Discourses. July 19, 2010 in Nature Writings. About nature, Joseph Wood Krutch wrote: “she accepts much that is unacceptable to men who have pushed too far in their efforts to imagine a universe they would like better.”. It is beautiful, this idea: the joyousness of nature, that nature provides manna and joy, if we let her. In her acceptances are tender mercies. Quotations are from the last chapter of The Desert Year, by Joseph Wood Krutch, 1951.). 8220;To climb mounta...

STAY | OVER THE WATERS
https://overthewaters.wordpress.com/2009/11/24/stay-2
Adventures in Psalm 29. November 24, 2009 • 9:43 am. Lift the veil of vanity. Open up my eyes. I will throw myself into your sea. And say good-bye to all my grief. To gaze into Your violet sky. To know Your fragrance- the breath of life. To never want to. To let You decide. And love my enemies. But I can’t do this by myself. And lift the veil. So I can see. I’m happy now that I was made a dreamer. This wasn’t always so ;). Let it all out. I know now that it wasn’t ‘just a dream’- it was a transaction.

Adventures in Psalm 29. November 11, 2009 • 11:47 pm. Some thoughts this morning…. On going deeper with God and how it happens for me. November 17, 2009 at 3:14 pm. You are finding here in water something other than H2O. You are finding in it what religious people have always sought to find: sacred space and time, heaven and eternity. Your words will make me more attentive next time I am in or by the water. This evening, at sunset on top of a mountain I will being paying close attention to the sea. Leave...
‘Looking’ is the thing | OVER THE WATERS
https://overthewaters.wordpress.com/2010/03/09/looking-is-the-thing
Adventures in Psalm 29. March 9, 2010 • 8:53 am. 8216;Looking’ is the thing. He makes something out of nothing. He takes the smallest things, the invisible things and illuminates them. He takes our stories, stories we fear aren’t worth telling, and reveals them for what they really are: entrance points for His grace. If there’s pain, healing is close by. Looking is the thing. There is treasure in the darkest of memories. He makes something out of nothing. March 14, 2010 at 11:53 pm.

Here's more on the blog philosophy. March 27, 2007. Bravo to David Gessner for thumbing his nose at the hallowed genre of nature writing! A Wild, Rank Place. In these essays, Gessner gets a chance to make his writing definitively masculine in unexpected ways. While Edward Abbey beats his chest and caricatures masculinity for the fun of it...

Lost in Translation
Monday, April 27, 2009. It is hard to believe that a semester has already passed since I started this blog. What began as a school project will most definitely end with this semester. Keeping a blog for Borderbeat. Has been a difficult part of the class because I'm not a big blogger. Sure, I'll read an interesting post when they surface but I don't subscribe to blogs religiously. I really enjoyed some of the people I met and places I traveled for this class though. Whether I was talking to coffee roasters.
