stop sign farm: September 2010

Thursday, September 16, 2010. How does time fly by so so so fast? No sooner do I commit to making sure I post 2 times a week than 3 weeks zip by. Argh! So, here we are, deep into an early fall. Summer skipped us this year, I'm afraid, and the mood around the island is dark indeed. Folks here suffer through 9 months of rain, showers, drizzle, mist and every other variety of wet so they can pull out their shorts and flip flops in July and not unearth their wellies til October. stop sign farm: Time in
http://stopsignfarm.blogspot.com/2012/01/time-in.html
Monday, January 16, 2012. Funny thing is, it's quite a thing of beauty, both literally and metaphorically. My whole family is fairly obsessed with turning it. There's something quite different about marking the next hour with falling sand. Most obviously, it's visual - watching it is an act unlike staring at a clock. It's also beautiful, simple. Every hour slips away like.sands in the hourglass. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Be a Farm Hero. The life of lotus.

stop sign farm: Yowsa - a farm-intensive weekend!
http://stopsignfarm.blogspot.com/2012/02/yowsa-farm-intensive-weekend.html
Sunday, February 19, 2012. Yowsa - a farm-intensive weekend! It must be spring! After a fall and winter spent focused on new school, new city digs, and the whirlwind day job of Mark’s, the cycle of life is spinning full-force all at once here at Stop Sign Farm. On Friday, came our first pig harvest. Performed by abattoir extraordinaire, Vashon’s own Farmstead Meatsmith, it was a surprisingly smooth and pleasant experience. The hanging weight of our pork came in at 450 lbs – we done good! Brandon showed u...

Wednesday, June 29, 2011. Road Trip Part IV: Yosemite - the awesome and the annoying. We escaped Nevada, crossing into California at Reno, and then winding through a tiny, snow-packed pass on our way to the western entrance of Yosemite, which Mark and I agreed was probably the most beautiful stretch of road either of us had ever seen, and then proceeded to have our one and only bitter. First lesson: a trip to Yose. And although the park is vast, the area most people visit - the. At 8:30PM that all the fo...

http://stopsignfarm.blogspot.com/2012/01/changing-of-guard-passing-baton-one.html
Thursday, January 26, 2012. Changing of the guard, passing the baton, one door closes. The sentiment comes dressed up in many of our favorite cliches - the shift of dominance from elder to younger, the inevitable march of time. Most of the time, its just the days passing - or, in our house, the flipping of the hourglass. But every now and then the moment sneaks up and bonks you on the head. She also breaks down a lot. Guess what, Mom? He said when he stepped onto the dock, "I was Passenger Number SIX!
