Fitness

Miles run and biked per year. It wasn't until 2010 that I started entering all my treadmill runs manually. There are a few months each summer when it's too hot for a long run outside. So the years prior to 2010 are counting only outdoor runs. Miles run in current shoes: 410.87. I try to change shoes about every 300 miles or so. I run a long run once a week, usually on the weekend. Lately these have been about 12-13 miles. This is a list of the fastest runs over 10 miles. 2012 OUC Half Marathon.

I don't sit around all day writing software, but over the years I have produced a few moderately useful things. I originally wrote this application in Perl as a set of CGIs, but later rewrote it in Java to teach myself JSP, servlets, and Struts. Then I rewrote it again in Perl, but using the Mojolicious. Framework, because I was tired of maintaining the Java version. The source code. Is available, too. This application will allow anyone to list and track gifts they'd like, so feel free to use it yourself.

In 1999, Brian Hill and I wrote some software for a friend in return for being able to colocate a system at his home (he had a 64k leased line, which was "fast"). The software he asked for was something to monitor Internet services like HTTP and SMTP from afar, and send notifications when they're unavailable.
