Low-Carb for You: Serotonin's Siren Call

http://lowcarb4u.blogspot.com/2010/10/serotonins-siren-call.html

Discussing the science behind the low-carb lifestyle. Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Admit it. Low-carbing is hard. You have to keep a constant eye on what you're eating. And you have to cope with the fact that the people around you are keeping a constant eye on you- trying to figure out why you eat in such a nonconventional way. Wouldn't it be easier just to take a pill to lose weight? Word spread, and thousands of patients began to request prescriptions. From the New York Times. Because fenfluramine was ab...

Low-Carb for You: Deep Thoughts

http://lowcarb4u.blogspot.com/2011/02/deep-thoughts.html

Discussing the science behind the low-carb lifestyle. Saturday, February 12, 2011. This blogpost is mostly about me and not about science. For those who come here for the science, please feel free to skip it.). Nevertheless, the reason most of us started doing low-carb was not for its health benefits but for weight loss. And unsurprisingly the three studies also showed that low-carbing works as well or better than other forms of dieting for weight loss and weight maintenance. I had suspected this before.

Discussing the science behind the low-carb lifestyle. Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Ghrelin, the Hunger Hormone. A hormone is a chemical that is produced in one part of the body, is released into the blood, and is able to regulate activities in other parts of the body. This pattern is illustrated in the graph below.

Low-Carb for You: Impaired Mitochondrial Function and Obesity, Part Two

http://lowcarb4u.blogspot.com/2011/11/impaired-mitochondrial-function-and_21.html

Discussing the science behind the low-carb lifestyle. Monday, November 21, 2011. Impaired Mitochondrial Function and Obesity, Part Two. Last time we learned that extremely obese people, weight-reduced people and possibly people who will eventually become obese all appear to have a harder time oxidizing fatty acids for fuel than do lean people. Because fatty acids are oxidized in the mitochondria, researchers have begun to look for mitochondrial defects as an explanation for this problem. Showing lower mi...

Kickin' Into Keto: June 2012

http://www.ketoblog.net/2012_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 8, 2012. Flavors from the east. I haven't tried to do a whole lot with Asian food, so this month I'm trying a few different things. Spicy Thai food was my favorite delivery food pre-Keto. This dish had a great flavor and bok choy done at home is so nice and crisp. wish I'd started making curries at home sooner! The net carbs on this was 17g each, but we've both gotten to the point where we can easily stay in Keto at 80g of carbs (although we rarely if ever go that high! Eight baby bok choy.

Kickin' Into Keto: March 2013

http://www.ketoblog.net/2013_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 14, 2013. I've made this almost once a month for the last year, and just realized for the first time, I never added it to the blog. I altered it so it could be used in our new meal plan. For dinner, we split it into three servings, one of which we split into four 150 calorie cups as left-overs. I think next time, I'm going to put the entire thing into cups to use as one of our lunch meals. Chipotle Chicken Cauliflower Bake. Broken into ¾" (2cm) florets. Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce.

Kickin' Into Keto: January 2012

http://www.ketoblog.net/2012_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 26, 2012. For Christmas Doug's mom and husband sent us a wonderful gift (particularly wonderful since we've been so busy) of assorted pre-prepared meals and meats from Omaha Steaks. He had not told them about his diet (so we were super lucky not to get fruit or sweets! And the 65 pounds he's lost, so they did not know that we have switched to grass-fed and that our poor, tiny little freezer took some serious organizing! What we did decide we wanted to get on hand and freeze is burgers!
