Thursday, April 30, 2009. Michelstadt, One of Our Favorites! This is their Rathaus (city hall), and it is small and ornate, with a date of 1484 on the front. Michelstadt was not bombed during the war, so it's treasures pretty much still exist. Same Rathaus, just showing the easy-going style of the city folk on an afternoon. This is the outside of said castle wall. You can see the remains of the old moat, and the last tower is the "Thieves' Tower," where the villains were thrown for safekeeping. Well, tha...

Sunday, October 26, 2008. 25 October 2008 - Another Saturday Walk. This little scene began our adventure in finding the Schlosspark that we had heard so much about. After doing a little shopping yesterday (Saturday), we continued up a street that we had glimpsed the other day while showing another missionary couple where a bookstore was. This was the glimpse we had and was the lure to get us back! My favorite red roofs and skyline. More charm, with just a hint of moderninity (sp) in the far background.

Saturday, December 27, 2008. More This's and That's. This is how we buy our lettuce, guaranteed fresh! It comes wrapped in a bit of plastic to keep the dirt from straying, and, as you can see, we get a variety of three different types of lettuce with each square of soil. I think it's really quite inventive and remarkable. We love it! Here's a close-up, just in case you didn't believe me the first time. It took a tremendous burden off our shoulders. Just haven't learned to handle that yet! Her window typi...

Sunday, October 11, 2009. Still finishing up Würzburg and Rimpar! Before we took off for Wien, we had a final district meeting in Schweinfurt, so I took a couple pictures while Hank took the elders to the train station. This is the old wall of the city. At one time it completely surrounded the city. Now there are just a few sections here and there. It's really massive and beautiful. More wall. Do you think I ought to take up writing as a profession? And guess what else I found! Germany must have it's fin...

Friday, May 1, 2009. Bernkassel Kues and Trier, My Outing with the Sisters! Well, much to Hank's delight, I took off one Saturday with the senior single sisters to visit Bernkassel Kues and Trier! He doesn't enjoy the travel much and figures once you've seen one city you've seen 'em all, so he was happy to stay home and complete a list of honey-do's while I partied! This is what is left of the "Porta Nigra" or black door. It is massive. She's got an awful lot of miles under her belt! It was a really clou...

Sunday, February 22, 2009. No Rhyme or Reason. Well, dear people, we're finally getting back to a blog! There will be a little of this and that, so be up for a little variety, okay? This little setting is right as you enter our apartment, and it gives me a warm feeling to come home to. On the 28th of February, it was Elder Call's 70th birthday, so Hank and I had fun going in early and trying to make the office festive for him! He's a pretty quiet guy, but he even condescended to wear one of the hats!

Saturday, August 22, 2009. The Famous Autobahn Stau! We had our first introduction to the great "stau" on one of our trips to Schweinfurt! This particular family got a ball and went to the side of the road and played catch. They were lucky to have some construction going on so they had a place to play. Others just opened up doors, took small walks, helped little ones to an "outdoor facility" (by holding them over the weeds with their drawers at half mast), picnicked from the backs of their cars, etc.

Sunday, June 7, 2009. When Hank and I started out on our jaunt to the Netherlands, it was sunny and bright, becoming gray and overcast as we went. We said, "Traveling in cloudy weather is really much better, easier on the eyes, etc." Well, when the downpour started at about Koblenz, we started wondering how long it would last, and, sure enough, it lasted most of our trip! Sorry it won't do justice to the tulips, though! This is a view of the Haag Temple from across a canal. This way they don't have a tre...
