Lemon surprise pudding (1950) | The Vintage Cake Spot
https://jessicascakespot.wordpress.com/2010/10/11/lemon-surprise-pudding-1950
The Vintage Cake Spot. A slice of the classics. Lemon surprise pudding (1950). A cloud-like sponge hides the tangy lemon custard below. Any pudding, cake or biscuit with the word ‘surprise’ in its title tends to leave you wanting more. I found this zesty little number moonlighting as Lemon Sponge Soufflé in. The original recipe from 1950 uses teacups and tablespoons in the measuring, with little guidance on tips and baking temperatures. To ensure you get it right first time I’ve taken this recipe from.

Dav's bit o the web. General optimism, in a mild and British sort of way. Raspberry Pi Ultrasound Sonar Range Sensing. SRF02 sensor. About the size of 20p. I’ll gloss over how sonar works to try to keep this article on topic, but Wikipedia has a good diagram of Active Sonar. And Devantech have a practical FAQ on using their modules. Enable the kernel modules ‘i2c bcm2708’ and ‘i2c dev’ by commenting out that line in /etc/modprobe.d/raspi-blacklist.conf. Once we’ve wired up our sensor, it should sho...

Dav's bit o the web. General optimism, in a mild and British sort of way. Homemade salted caramel and honeycomb ice cream. Homemade salted caramel and honeycomb ice cream. Homemade Salted Caramel and Honeycomb ice cream. Spring is finally here! Lambs are gambolling in the field, birds are tweeting and the sun is actually casting a shadow, so that means it’s time for another batch of ice cream. This isn’t the first time I’ve made salted caramel ice cream. You’ll need a handful of crushed up honeycomb.

Raspberry Pi Infrared Range Sensing | Dav's bit o the web

Dav's bit o the web. General optimism, in a mild and British sort of way. Raspberry Pi Infrared Range Sensing. The ultrasound range sensor I’m using has a minimum range of about 16cm, but I thought it would be interesting for my robot to sense objects more closely than that. Sharp have a range of three Infrared Range sensors. That are very popular and fairly easy to interface to a Raspberry Pi. I’ve chosen the GP2D120 because it’s got a supported range of 4cm to 30cm. As well as its rated minimum, typica...

Dav's bit o the web. General optimism, in a mild and British sort of way. Rivers of London, Ben Aaronovitch. Police action, personal adventure, old school magic, a smattering of romance, and a 1960s Jag driven over 100mph through central London make for a heady mix of science and magic in Rivers of London. This is Ben Aaronovitch. His universe has some simple and unique ideas that I think set it apart from other police procedural dramas, such a modern twist on elemental spirits and incorporating some int...

Dav's bit o the web. General optimism, in a mild and British sort of way. Technology has driven civilisation since we developed enough technology to record history. I love playing with technology, but I especially love building and creating thing. Sometimes, I get to tell the internet about what I’ve built and how, this is where that happens. Saving the world, one cpu cycle at a time. We can’t all be Jeff Dean. And need more than a printf() call. A chart of my server’s CPU activity, the % in use. Directi...

Digital cameras and memory card speeds | Dav's bit o the web

Dav's bit o the web. General optimism, in a mild and British sort of way. Digital cameras and memory card speeds. Digital cameras often have a rapid shoot mode, where they take still photographs as quickly as they can. I always thought that the maximum rate was limited by the camera’s internal hardware, but after reading Jeff Atwood’s comments on modern USB Flash drive performance. I wondered how significant the memory card’s speed is. Left: old and busted. Right: new hotness. Are generally rated as Clas...

Dav's bit o the web. General optimism, in a mild and British sort of way. Ubuntu 13.04 on a USB flash drive, and merging its persistent storage.
