Selected reflections and sermons by Chris Duckworth. Why The Lutheran Zephyr. Newer posts →. Why I Left the Revised Common Lectionary Behind. August 10, 2015. The Revised Common Lectionary, as it appears in the front of the pew edition of Evangelical Lutheran Worship. So, here are the reasons why I left the RCL behind. The RCL presents Old Testament texts only in relation to the Gospel text. For about half of the year an alternate cycle of “semi-continuous” Old Testament readings is offered&#...Replacing...

Selected reflections and sermons by Chris Duckworth. Why The Lutheran Zephyr. Playing the Wall Street Victim. September 25, 2015. In her widely shared “Two Views of Pope Francis” Ms Noonan unnecessarily condescends the Pope and his economics, and regrettably plays the Wall Street victim to the Pope’s cautions about capitalism. Ms Noonan’s experience with capitalism is legitimate, from her … Continue reading →. Faith and the Church. If All Lives Mattered, There Wouldn’t Be #BlackLivesMatter. July 24, 2015.

faith in community: As The Deer
http://faithincommunity.blogspot.com/2015/08/as-deer.html
Stories of life, church, the neighborhood: where grace is found. Monday, August 3, 2015. A few days ago, my dog decided she wanted to go out a little earlier in the morning than I did. After a short period of sighing and whining (her, not me), she won and I got dressed, pulled on my sneakers and took her out. I was just getting light. We took the familiar turns around the perimeter of the apartment where we are living right now, as I am settling into a new community and congregation. Scout, the Wonder Dog.

March 5, 2010 · 9:53 am. Right after I posted my last post about giving up anxiety for Lent, we had a scare at work involving a deadline that slid under everyone’s radar. Nothing, and I mean. Desperately Seeking Simplicity: July 2007
http://livesimplicity.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Insofar as it is apolitical, simple living risks being conservative in its political implications, focusing inordinately on the ability and responsibility of the individual for the quality of his/her life. If the simple living idea remains largely individualistic, it will not only be irrelevant to most Americans- in the end it will disappear under the influence of the dominant forces in American life. - Jerome Segal. Saturday, July 28, 2007. The coming out post. How much should I keep to myself? In my ch...

The Kitchen Door: Mandatory Waiting Period
http://thekitchendoor.blogspot.com/2015/06/mandatory-waiting-period.html
Mr M and I have a Mandatory Waiting Period in our house. No, it's not about the purchase of handguns (he's a pacifist, and I'm more inclined towards a crowbar and an Iron Man mask). It's a conversational waiting period. Years ago, we realized that when big topics come up, the wisest and kindest thing to do is to let my introverted husband mull them over for a few days. He comes back with insightful responses, calmed and more cautious than perhaps other parties might concoct. View my complete profile.
Versus Populum: September 2009
http://versuspopulum.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
A public square for the respectful discussion of issues of the day that face Christian believers. Friday, September 18, 2009. Just a Note from Tertullian. From Tertullian's De Corona. Should it be held lawful to make an occupation of the sword when the Lord proclaims that he who uses the sword shall perish by the sword? And shall the son of peace take part in battle when it does not even become him to sue at the law courts? Shall he carry a flag, too, hostile to Christ? Friday, September 11, 2009. I know...

The Lutheran Zephyr | Selected reflections and sermons by Chris Duckworth
Selected reflections and sermons by Chris Duckworth. Why The Lutheran Zephyr. Soccer and school and Holy Week. April 11, 2017. In fact, this cultural shift moves Christian believers, however modestly, toward the experience of Christians in the first few centuries of the faith, who practiced their faith not in societies where they held power and wide influence, but instead in societies that variously ignored them, benignly acknowledged them, looked askance at them, or even persecuted them. But the work at...

My life in lutherie. Friday, July 6, 2007. Catching up, part 3. Here are some images from Eclecto-man's neck:. I've had a ball the last two days carving this thing. Good thing too - there are still seven disemnecked bodies in my shop. The necks are underway, but Eclectoman's is first to get to this stage. PGM's is close in tow. Eclecto man, if ye hates it, I can fix. And, if you're concerned, that's NOT the final headstock shape. It'll be much prettier, I promise. Wednesday, June 6, 2007. Since the semes...
Realpoetik | When life is strange enough for words.
When life is strange enough for words. August 5, 2013. A while ago, and damn, that was a brilliant work of genius. Maybe I should write about it one of these days. But yeah, as some of my friends already know, this somewhat uneventful routine (which might precisely be the lack of one) is about to change in less than two weeks. But what have I been up to, really? But the point still stands. College tired me. In many, many ways. And I guess that realization led me to seek some serious change in...There are...
