Lutterworth Piecemakers

Friday, 23 March 2018. I was away in February, and forgot to ask someone to take photos. I hear that the name badge workshop went very well, and was sorry to miss it. I was glad to be at the March meeting, as I had met Linda Forey a while ago ( at a party at my brother's! And was looking forward to seeing her again. It's no wonder, with the standard of her work. It was innovative and very skillful. Show and tell started with a bang, with Janet's 'Down the Rabbit hole' designed by Sarah Fielke. This i...

Lutterworth Piecemakers: January 2014

http://lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 29 January 2014. Of course, there are always some people for whom scrappy is a step too far. Despite their best efforts, they end up matching fabrics and colours, as they just can't help themselves! These will be fine with the rest of the blocks. Altogether we made 29 twelve inch blocks, which is nearly enough for 2 Linus quilts! Very good result from just an hour's sewing! Membership has stayed steady, and we were able to accommodate a couple of new people who wanted to join the group. 22nd S...

Lutterworth Piecemakers: December 2013

http://lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, 7 December 2013. The November meeting is our Christmas celebration! June was in the festive mood with her raffle prizes, which were all mysterious presents. It was a free raffle, so everyone was entered. (I didn't win, as usual! We had our tasting buffet, which had lots of delicious nibbles, both sweet and savoury. Here is an example of the same block in a different arrangement,. And this is yet the. Block, in another arrangement! This is a really fun Christmas quilt. This photo doesn't do Bunt...

Monday, 24 March 2014. Kangaroos, Koalas and Kwilts. Then on to show and tell, where I failed spectacularly to take a photo of Denise's wonderful quilt from the front -. But you can imagine how lovely it is, as here is the detail in the back! Di didn't actually make this quilt, but it was a birthday present from her husband, and made by the Tentmakers of Cairo. What a wonderful man! This quilt was made at the Yvonne Brown workshop last month. I hear it was a great day. Black and white and red all over!

Lutterworth Piecemakers: November 2013

http://lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, 2 November 2013. Our exhibition was an unqualified success! As ever, the setting up was a little stressful, but the helpers all took it in their stride, and did their usual fabulous job of displaying the quilts. Our banner was still looking good, although Di said that she had had to repair a few of the letters where the wind had damaged them slightly. The sales table was very popular, and lots of fabrics and ready made items were sold. Here are some of the 'House and garden' quilts, designed by...

Lutterworth Piecemakers: Heather Jacks evening

http://lutterworthpiecemakers.blogspot.com/2015/07/heather-jacks-evening.html

Sunday, 19 July 2015. In July we were thrilled to be able to welcome The Great British Sewing Bee winner 2014 Heather Jacks. She gave a very entertaining talk about her experiences during the television series, and gave us behind the scenes information. She brought along several garments she had made, and shared the secrets of their inspiration and construction. It was a lovely evening, with quite a few visitors joining us. June had a fun summer raffle, with more sunbathers relaxing on towels. Japanese f...

Quilting in chaos: Bionic Gear Bag

http://liz-quiltinginchaos.blogspot.com/2015/06/i-started-with-pack-of-sample-fabric.html

Friday, 5 June 2015. Happy Monday everyone. After much tearing out of hair with changes to my computer and phone making it impossible to post pictures I think I may now have glitches on the run. So here are the images that I hope will help my Bionic baggers. I started with a pack of sample fabric from Kisco. They are all slightly wider than the pattern calls for by about 1/2 an inch but as they were all the same so I went for it. They are all backed with light weight interfacing. I like to top stitch, I ...

Quilting in chaos: Have I been quilting?

http://liz-quiltinginchaos.blogspot.com/2015/03/have-i-been-quilting.html

Monday, 30 March 2015. Have I been quilting? I was told the lights have not been on in my sewing room lately. I think I have made up for it. This very cute bears quilt has gone back to T for her grand daughter. A totally crappy picture that does not do this lovely quilt justice. This is a quilt made by Newton craft group, finally finished, a pink one is on the machine waiting for quilting tomorrow. And this is going back to D tomorrow. I love batiks. She chose a swirly panto. 31 March 2015 at 12:12.

Quilting in chaos: Just keep quilting, but hopefully not cursing.

http://liz-quiltinginchaos.blogspot.com/2015/05/just-keep-quilting-but-hopefully-not.html

Thursday, 28 May 2015. Just keep quilting, but hopefully not cursing. A bit like Dory my mantra lately has been just keep . not swimming but quilting. I have made lots of finishes but am unable to blog about them because between Blogger (why is my Blogger account now on a gmail address that I never use? And F* *ing Google with it's new swanky makes no sense to me what so ever and Dropbox no longer working I am almost ready to weep, curse and throw something all at the same time. 29 May 2015 at 07:29.

Quilting in chaos: July 2015

http://liz-quiltinginchaos.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Friday, 24 July 2015. Bionic gear bag part 2. So the next modification I made was to the bottom edge of the sides, I made a little seam 4 stitches long at the bottom of each of the 4 folded lines. Clip diagonally close into the seam. Turn through and press. I chalked the fold lines and then stitched them with a long stitch length that can be removed later. I seam the bottom of the pockets, 2 1/2 inches from the folded edge by the zip for the first pocket and 3 1/4 inches for the 3 others. Links to this p...

Quilting in chaos: Bionic gear bag.

http://liz-quiltinginchaos.blogspot.com/p/bionic-gear-bag.html

Well my fellow Bionic Gear Bag Babes I have just completed no 2. Having said I would never do another). Lessons learned . changes to the side panels have made putting it together so much easier. After some unpicking I also discovered that the outer should be quite firm to make sewing the bag together easier and to give a neater finish. Quilting a 1 inch grid over the outer piece, a layer of batting with a fairly stiff cotton layer make a firm but manageable foundation. More lessons learned to follow.

master of patience?: Festival of Quilts

http://lyndahill.blogspot.com/2015/08/festival-of-quilts.html

How I demonstrate that far from being a master of patience, I have a short attention span and am attracted to try out lots of fabric related techniques and ideas. Monday, 10 August 2015. Last week it was the wonderful Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham. It's a must-see as far as I'm concerned, plus an opportunity to do some serious shopping. I had my list all ready. And here is the result. I'm sure it'll be better once it's quilted - once I think of a pattern to bring out the design. Bonnie is b...
