The Lyminge Historical Society. Our Historical Society was formed in 1971. Within the Society we have an active Family History and Research Group. Who aid each other in researching their genealogical studies and have greatly assisted the Society in carrying out research; an examples of which were the discovery of some of the personal histories of those who are commemorated on our local War Memorial. Lyminge Historical Society - Membership

The Society is in general self financing being supported by an active membership and organised by a committee which is annually elected from the membership. Membership of the Lyminge Historical Society is open to all local residents above the age of 14 years. Children between the ages of 10 to 13 years accompanying their parent or guardian are also welcome. For 2017 the fee has been kept at 10.00 per person, this is the ninth year we have been able to keep the fee at this level. Talks, Trips and Events.

Lyminge Archaeology
Lyminge in Kent, is a rare and important archaeological site. 1,300 years ago, an Anglo-Saxon monastery stood in the village of Lyminge, presided over by a royal abbess. Excavations are now showing that Lyminge was an important place before this, with Anglo-Saxon occupation extending back into the 5th century A.D. Through the Up on the Downs Scheme. We have a variety of publications relating to our ongoing work. See our Publications Page. We also have a User guide to our online database (IADB).
