MCC Friday Reflections: November 2014
http://mccfridayreflections.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
For the past 13 years of teaching I have had my students set a goal for unsolicited compliments. The goal itself has varied as has the way each class progressed through the year toward their goal. Every class has met their goal, some surpassing it. Trimester 2 is upon us and we are solidified in the routines, comfortable with each other, and open to exploring more each day. The goal set forth is well underway, too; and with pride and commitment we know we can reach our destination and then some. Behavior...

MCC Friday Reflections: June 2014

The life of a teacher is muftifaceted. First and foremost we educate; attempting to bring meaning to ideas and concepts that, when our students first came to us, had eluded them. We are detectives in that we must ascertain the personality of each child we encounter. We must look beyond what we see on paper, seeking to know them as people.yet as people they are changing right before our eyes as they grow and mature. June 4, 2014. Links to this post. MCC Friday Reflections: Witnessing
http://mccfridayreflections.blogspot.com/2015/04/witnessing.html
There’s always a bittersweet feeling after Spring Break. At this time, as a teacher, I fully realize that it’s all downhill from here. April quickly turns to May and summer is upon us. Teaching and parenting continues to parallel each other more and more the longer I am engaged in both. It’s bittersweet to watch my own (personal) kids grow up as they are; dealing with all that comes with childhood. We all know that we would do anything for our own children…I see that quite often as a teacher…. Just hours...

MCC Friday Reflections: April 2015

From My Kids to Yours. The appointment did not go quite the way we expected it to go…without going into too much detail I can say we had to make some hard decisions…and we are working through the logistics of those decisions. The last thing that day I needed on my mind was to have to think about how my class was faring with a sub. My energies needed to be with my family, they needed to be with the thought processes my wife and I went through, they needed to be with Ella. Dear Mr. C,. Links to this post.

MCC Friday Reflections: A Curious Thing
http://mccfridayreflections.blogspot.com/2014/12/a-curious-thing.html
The school year moves quickly. The excitement related to the novelty at the beginning often transforms into the pleasure of getting to know one another. Personalities come forth and we enjoy learning together. A sense of belonging permeates the classroom as we move through our days. From that pleasure we derive a deeper understanding of education and the role that each of us play in the acquisition of knowledge. I often take time to step back and simply watch as my students go about their business. If th...

MCC Friday Reflections: September 2014

For the Love of Reading. Mastering the art of reading can be a lifelong endeavor. Some people love to read while others prefer alternate ways to nourish their desire for a good story. Either way, school provides students with a host of opportunities to experiment with the written word. Teaching students to read is a complex task. By the time kids reach fourth grade they are reading and the focus shifts from “learning how to read” to “reading to learn”. How do I know this, what have I seen? They are well ...

MCC Friday Reflections: August 2014
http://mccfridayreflections.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
The first weeks of a school year are primarily dedicated the idea of “getting to know”. Students get to know their teachers, classmates, classrooms, rules, expectations, and the daily routines. Teachers get to know their students, roles in the building, new staff, and new parents. In other words, they read beautifully! August 29, 2014. Links to this post. All That is New.
