My Cat | Laura Rittenhouse's Gardening Journal

Laura Rittenhouse's Gardening Journal. Keeping Track of What's Growing When, Where and How. I’ve been opposed to cats for a long time, not because I don’t like them, but because of the way they devour local fauna. In Australia feral cats are a huge problem and domestic cats aren’t far behind. It’s not really their fault, it’s just their nature. But I put aside that long-held bias when a stray cat wandered into our suburban neighbourhood in early 2013. By July 2013 Frank and I had adopted Adler. 8221; so ...

My Dog | Laura Rittenhouse's Gardening Journal
https://laurarittenhouse.wordpress.com/my-dog
Laura Rittenhouse's Gardening Journal. Keeping Track of What's Growing When, Where and How. In August of 2013, we adopted a dog. From the local animal shelter. That ended in tears. Literally). But the reasons we wanted a dog still existed. So I did some searching and found Angela at Companions for Life. She specialises in rescuing and rehoming dogs on rural properties. We called her, told her our circumstances and drove out to her farm to look at the dogs. Rusty at 7 weeks – wasn’t he cute! Weren’t...

Laura Rittenhouse's Gardening Journal. Keeping Track of What's Growing When, Where and How. On the 17th of October, 2012, my husband and I became amateur beekeepers. We bought some safety equipment, some beekeeping tools, 2 established hives and voila, we were beekeepers. They have been a great addition to our lives and even helped lead us to the farm. They pollinate our vegetables, provide us healthy-honey. Give us wax for candles. Our first bee garden with 2 established hives and 1 captured swarm.

Kumquat Marmalade | Laura Rittenhouse's Gardening Journal

Laura Rittenhouse's Gardening Journal. Keeping Track of What's Growing When, Where and How. End of the Peas. Mounded Potatoes →. September 15, 2011. Our kumquat tree produced a pretty large crop this year, certainly more than we can eat raw. When this happens (every 2 or 3 years, I suppose) Frank gets inspired to make marmalade. He loves it. I think it’s so-so. But I love using the fruit rather than letting it drop on its way to the compost bin. Frank’s customised recipe goes something like:. Bring the p...

My Recipes | Laura Rittenhouse's Gardening Journal
https://laurarittenhouse.wordpress.com/my-recipes
Laura Rittenhouse's Gardening Journal. Keeping Track of What's Growing When, Where and How. I started this blog in order to become a better gardener. I figured if I kept track of what I planted, how I cared for it and what I harvested, every year I’d get better results. 8221; which hopefully will make it easier for me (and others) to find recipes in all those pages about plants, chickens and bees. The recipes I include are not just fruit and veg based, now that I have bees. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Laura Rittenhouse's Gardening Journal. Keeping Track of What's Growing When, Where and How. Warning, I’m chicken mad. I’ve gone bonkers for chickens. I used to think chickens were poultry, now I know they are adorable little pets. Bronwyn, Isabel and Rosie, home at last. Adopting 3 Isa Brown pullets on 23 March, 2012. Then we moved to the farm. But time marches on. And we’ve got a new dog. But if you adopt 3 siblings and one is a boy, what do you do? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.
