Sammie's blog: November 2008
http://sammiesoldier.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Friday, 21 November 2008. Well the gorgeous Sammie broke out of his stable today. Not through the stable door but through his pretty sturdy chain and rubber door guard thing. He's developed a habit of poking his front legs out and pawing the walkway when dinner is on the way and tonight he must have really pushed his weight against it and he fell out giving himself one hell of a shock. He quickly backed up into his box and lots of snorts followed while he stood there shaking his head in disbelief! I was ...

Sammie's blog: Grace
http://sammiesoldier.blogspot.com/2009/10/grace.html
Tuesday, 6 October 2009. Today, the world is one fine horse less. The loss is significant and overwhelming to those of us who knew him. Yesterday, Sammie lost his last battle. He fought to stay, calmly and with courage, and when the time came to declare surrender, he tried to prepare those of us who loved him. He knew before we did. Today, the world is smaller and less beautiful. We'll never forget you, Sammie, and all you taught us. God bless, orange monkey. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Sammie's blog: Fox trot
http://sammiesoldier.blogspot.com/2009/02/fox-trot.html
Friday, 13 February 2009. I rode Sammie in the school today. It was the first time in over a week so I wasn't expecting much from either of us (especially me! Wrong attitude I know, but you have to be realistic every now and again! We kept it short and sweet and then it was back to the yard for supper, hay and sleep. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Starry, starry night. Frosty the unwelcome snowman.

Sammie's blog: October 2008
http://sammiesoldier.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, 30 October 2008. It was dark when I got to the yard today, a bit drizzly and pretty windy (and cold of course! I rugged him up and left him watching TV while I got his supper ready. He just loves looking out there in the dark but the sound of supper soon saw him asking to get back to his stable pronto! Friday, 24 October 2008. Tails of the Unexpected. He actually took me to the very top, I couldn't believe it. Boy he's a powerful monkey once he gets going - talk about horsepower! Prior to that ...

Sammie's blog: Wild pony alert!
http://sammiesoldier.blogspot.com/2009/02/wild-pony-alert.html
Saturday, 14 February 2009. Sammie was shocked to a standstill today when we came pretty close to the wild ponies out on our hack. Tiny little things - Exmoors I think, but to Sammie they were just plain odd. We were out with Sammie's friend, the youngster, and they both stood studying the scene before them intently without an inch between them - very up close and personal, bundled together like sardines in a tin. Sammie's blog: Sammie shiny
http://sammiesoldier.blogspot.com/2009/02/sammie-shiny.html
Monday, 16 February 2009. I had a lovely day pootling around in the mild weather and sunshine. It was Sammie spring clean day - tail and mane wash and a good old rubbing down. Cleaned his hooves with Borax and filed his hinds down a bit more too. He wasn't too impressed but was happy enough to chew on a haynet during the proceedings. Then we went into the school to do some ridden stuff. Might not work and I know Sammie is a hard nut to crack, but even if it helped him a little bit it would be worth it...

Sammie's blog: January 2009
http://sammiesoldier.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, 25 January 2009. We got a wee bit wet today. Not a pleasant day at all and I didn't even really feel like having a lesson to be honest. But it was lovely to see our RI again and once we got going my mind was on the job. Sammie was such a good boy considering the conditions weren't exactly favourable. As we were doing the lateral work Sammie decided to throw in a few Spanish Stamps for good measure - I had a sense it was going to happen. RI was delighted! He's walking and doing it! After that the ...

Sammie's blog: August 2008
http://sammiesoldier.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Friday, 29 August 2008. Our hack went very well yesterday and we were out for longer than we expected. Not sure why, but time just ran away with us. Sammie gave me no real reason for concern - he was a little jumpy on the way out but soon settled down and started racing his ginger girlfriend towards the end (much to her great annoyance! I just let him go at his own pace in walk, trot and canter. Hardly any rein control at all - just letting him stretch out and run! Anyway, enough of that; always work wit...

Sammie's blog: Starry, starry night...
http://sammiesoldier.blogspot.com/2009/02/starry-starry-night.html
Sunday, 15 February 2009. Starry, starry night. Sammie was giving the Spanish Stomp Trot a really good go today. He tries so hard. I can virtually see his brain ticking over thinking, "I'll give it a go. I'll give it a go. Ooh ooh here I go! He really is getting the hang of it and doing more and more steps, and if I catch him when he is starting to lose it, I can push him out of it into a normal trot rather than grinding to a halt. This really is Sammie's thing and who am I to stop him?
