Just another WordPress.com site. The heart of the Arabic step. Proprioception, the body corporate, and the magic of etymology (yes this is still a dance blog) →. Isolation is an illusion. I love revisiting level 1 material in the subsequent levels, it allows us to go so much deeper into the dance. This is a perfect opportunity for a refresher on the Arabic step and its variations, so here’s a drill:.

Just another WordPress.com site. Level 1 video drills! A good run →. My first yoga video. June 30, 2015. Inspired partly by this piece on releasing tension in the psoas. I created this little sequence for use after dance practice or anytime, really. It does contain a lot of hip flexion, so if you’d like some added hip extension, I recommend my beloved bridge pose. As I watch it, I have a little voice in my head saying bend your front knee more (just like my teachers say in class! Level 1 video drills!

Just another WordPress.com site. Newer posts →. These are a few of my favourite backbends. August 17, 2016. Although I’m conservative with my backbends because I don’t want to just jam the edges of two poor unsuspecting vertebrae together, my body really likes the feeling of lengthening and stretch down the front supported by muscle strength. In bellydance, spinal extension/backbending is a big part of what we do. Here are some yoga backbends that I like:. Standing backbend with shoulder stretch. Can you...

Crumbs in the Costume Closet. A blog about belly dance, costuming, and why cupcakes make everything better. Friday, 27 June 2014. It's that time of year again already, and Women of Mass Distraction are elbows deep in preparation for the dance highlight of our year, Gothla! I'm particularly excited about my workshop with Michelle Manx. At the very least I intend to reap some costume inspiration! We're mid-costuming at the moment, and my house is full of fabric in tones of mud and swamp, cowries, disassemb...
