breathing space: February 2014

Breathing space' property='og:site name'/. 160; breathing space. Wednesday, February 26. Once more with feeling. And I was back at the La Mesa EcoPark! For the school holiday, Adri and I decided to have a relaxed morning birding. The park was quite busy, a school was holding its family day at the amphitheater and loud music, prayer and cheering reverberated through the mini forest. Fortunately, it was still a good day for us, birding and photography-wise, as the birds didn't seem to mind the noise. Not t...

TWO BIRDERS TO GO: January 2014
http://ornithographer.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 27, 2014. Simply put, just like Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting, there were no eyebrows! Two days ago we were at the La Mesa Ecopark to look for the Eyebrowed Thrush (a would be lifer). We dipped. Encouraged by our friend, Sean Melendres' report that he saw that particular species sometime after we left, we came back today with renewed hope. But dipped again. So at the end of the day, even without the eyebrows we still managed to get some smiles - just like Mona Lisa. I joined my wife...

TWO BIRDERS TO GO: September 2014
http://ornithographer.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 28, 2014. The grounds of the University of the Philippines were not that birdy Saturday morning. Except for Brown Shrikes. It seemed like each time we turned a corner there would be a BS. As fate would have it, my wife and I both woke up at 5 am Saturday morning. If we leave before six we could probably beat the onslaught of cars taking test-takers to the Ateneo campus" Cynthia said in a most encouraging way. The biggest surprise was an adult and immature Barred Rail searching for food ...

The Chiwit Chronicles: Crown Jewels
http://chiwitchronicles.blogspot.com/2015/07/crown-jewels.html
Thursday, July 16, 2015. Because of their colorful plumage, Pittas are often called "Jewels of the Forest". And if they are to be considered as such, then the Whiskered Pitta, (Erythropitta kochi), should be the Crown Jewel. But wait, what are Pittas? Just to be clear, the Pittas that I am talking about are birds, not the bread that comes with Shawarma. According to wikipedia, "Pittas are a family. Pittidae, of passerine. Mainly found in tropical Asia. Although a couple of species live in Africa. When on...

The Chiwit Chronicles: Why Chiwit?
http://chiwitchronicles.blogspot.com/2013/10/why-chiwit.html?spref=fb
Monday, October 21, 2013. I have thought about having a blog for quite sometime now, but somehow have never started one. I was not sure what topic to write about and I was not sure if I have what it takes to write a blog. Birding finally answered the first concern. As to the other, well, there's only one way to find out, so here goes. Once I made the decision, the next question was, what to I call it. After some thinking I settled on The Chiwit Chronicles. Why you ask? The resident male OBS of Darayonan.
