Is it an app? Is it an artwork? My phone can recognise faces, what do I look like to my phone? This prompted an investigation of Computer vision algorithms. And face recognition. I created an android app. Which captures or loads an image, processes it and publishes it on twitter: a selfie, a self-portrait, an auto-portrait, an autoselfie. The android app becomes the interaction mechanism. The twitter hashtag #autoselfie. Becomes the exhibition space. Can people recognise us from our selfies on twitter?

I use software to express an interpretation of the world around me, the software code and systems I work with everyday. I completed undergraduate studies in engineering and in the arts. The nullPointerException installation and the research completed for my Masters dissertation address the relationships between coding and creative practice. The titles of the individual works are truism which programmers sometimes use as guidelines to improve their skills. The titles also highlight different aspects of software creation: the coding itself, the architectural structures, the creation of multiple versions and the effect of algorithms and logic. There are 4 works in this exhibition: comment compile. The colours used in the works are sampled from fragments of webcam images of the artist. And from the Blue Screen of Death.
