It’s More Than a Twister, Auntie Em!

What Mamas Have to Say Monday. It’s More Than a Twister, Auntie Em! By Laura Bedingfield Herakovich. March 13, 2013. Did you hear the one about the dyslexic who walks into a bra? Or how about the agnostic dyslexic who sits around, contemplating whether there’s a dog or not? Ok, ok. It’s not that funny. As the mom of a dyslexic, however, this type of humor constitutes the majority of what the general public thinks a dyslexic is: someone who just flips letters around. Now flip that chair over onto its back...

It’s a Woman’s World, and It’s Not Pretty

What Mamas Have to Say Monday. It’s a Woman’s World, and It’s Not Pretty. June 28, 2012. As you may know, Sarah and I were interviewed by CNN about an article that ran in. Magazine titled, Why Women Still Can’t Have It All. Truth be told this story has been bothering me ever since I did the interview. One of the reasons is that it is terrifying to be interviewed on camera. Truly terrifying. The other reason is that I can’t believe we are still talking about this issue. That’s right I did just type that.

What Mamas Have to Say Monday. Working as a weekend news reporter for WSB-TV in Atlanta in my 20’s. I had to be at the news station at 4am to start live shots at 6am. Somehow I managed to balance my partying on weekend nights with car crashes and arrests on weekend mornings. Maybe the proudest part was never having to report on myself. I also love any unexpected “I love yous” and hugs between my kids. Reporter for “Entertainment Tonight” or anything to do with mindless celebrity gossip. Today, Sarah is t...

Because I'm the MOM, that's why! The almost daily rantings and ravings of a semi-rested and slightly anxiety-ridden suburban mother. Tanner Michael - July 13, 2011. Amazed. That is the only way to describe how I felt when I took this picture. And proud. Yes, I was crying as I snapped the photo and had to explain to Tanner that they were happy tears. This one has put me through the ringer this summer. No doubt. But then he goes and does something like this . I'm so proud of my monkey. Children. They d...

Because I'm the MOM, that's why! The almost daily rantings and ravings of a semi-rested and slightly anxiety-ridden suburban mother. How many blogs have I written since last summer about this time? Someone please tell me that there is a point where they can "win" Minecraft and it will no longer be fun and interesting? We can only spend so much time at the pool with scares of skin cancer, ear infections, and toe blisters abounding. I know, I'm worthless. If my kids appeared to need things to do, we wo...

Because I'm the MOM, that's why! The almost daily rantings and ravings of a semi-rested and slightly anxiety-ridden suburban mother. At your age . I just returned from my annual check up for the old Earth suit. Earlier in the week I went in to have blood drawn so that, perhaps, the doctor could explain to me why I'm 1) so tired, 2) so forgetful, 3) so head-achey, and 4) so prone to gaining weight. Alas, I left the office knowing a few things about myself. I have gained, yet another, 2 lbs. I should get m...

Because I'm the MOM, that's why! The almost daily rantings and ravings of a semi-rested and slightly anxiety-ridden suburban mother. Don't Hate Me Because I'm Frugal. I'm the worst friend ever. I sit around my house, scanning the news feed on Facebook and think about how much fun everyone is having with their kids this week off from school. All the pictures from the Chattanooga Aquarium and the circus . Yes, I know. Excuses. Excuses. Excuses. Let's face it - I'm a cheapskate. Yes, I own it. If the kids a...
