http://beesinbrittany.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
A blog in the year of a bee keeper. Thursday, November 6, 2014. Already November, what a great end to the season its been! The National Honey Show. I won't go on about how fantastic the Nation Honey Show was for me! We'll i will a bit then) But indeed it was a truly great experience. Great speakers and also a very useful afternoon workshop on bee diseases and their identification and a great bit of shopping in the trade hall One day just wasn't long enough! Their range is impressive to say the least!

Notes from a Small Apiary. Messing with hard and fast beginners rules. When we learn something new were often told there is only ever one way to do a certain thing, and were often expected to perfect that method before trying a different way of achieving the same result. Beekeeping is like this, to some extent, in that many instructors tell new beekeepers that there is one way, and only one way, of keeping bees - their way - and they can get really annoyed if their trainees dont do as theyre told. Notes from a Small Apiary: Orientation flights.
http://apiarynotes.blogspot.com/2016/04/orientation-flights.html
Notes from a Small Apiary. It's actually amazing to watch a colony orientate en masse, something that will only happen when a colony finds itself somewhere new - when a beekeeper moves a hive, or perhaps when a swarm relocates from a tree to a permanent nesting site, or maybe even when a tree containing a nest falls down and the colony suddenly finds itself at ground level. The circular loops of 8 pattern continued to grow sideways, and move upwards, until some of the bees were flying level with the tree...

Notes from a Small Apiary. Both European Foulbrood and American Foulbrood are notifiable diseases here in UK. This means that cases MUST be reported to the Beekeeping Inspectorate, who will then inspect your bees and, if there is a positive diagnosis, will tell you what you should do next. The Inspectors will then inspect all known colonies within the nearby area, and support those other beekeepers whose colonies are also infected. The aim is to restrict the spread of the disease. Notes from a Small Apiary: BBKA Basic - Swarm Control for Beginners
http://apiarynotes.blogspot.com/2016/02/bbka-basic-swarm-control-for-beginners.html
Notes from a Small Apiary. BBKA Basic - Swarm Control for Beginners. The BBKA has made changes to the Basic syllabus and the way the assessment is to be carried out and marked. These changes apply from 2016. The main change is that there is now a whole section on swarming and swarm control because it had been noted that those taking the assessment weren't really confident enough with their answers. A pass mark is 50%. The syllabus is still quite clear :-. The Candidate will be:. 32 able to give *. An ele...
